Conception, Initiation, Planning, Management and Monitoring of
the DOST Drug Addiction Treatment, Rehabilitation, Prevention, Human
Rights Protection and Social Reintegration programmes for drug addicts,
general public and vulnerable prisoner groups i.e. juveniles, drug
addicts, women and children.
Sept. 1992-todate
Establishment of a residential Drug Addiction Treatment and
Rehabilitation Centre at DOST Headquarters, Hayatabad, for
male and female drug addicts. DOST started with a 12-bed facility
for male addicts in 1992, a 24-bed centre in 1996, a 40-bed centre in
1998 and has subsequently progressed to a 70-bed facility for male and
female addicts in 2000. The facility is owned and constructed by DOST.

Establishment of the Sakoon Kore Crisis Intervention
Programme at DOST Headquarters for women and families in crisis
and distress, providing counselling and therapy to men, women and
children .

Establishment of Narcotics Anonymous self-help groups, Family
Programmes, Extended Aftercare and Relapse Prevention
Programmes at DOST Headquarters, Drop-in centres and
various locations in NWFP for the therapy, rehabilitation, follow-up
and community re-integration of drug addicts and their families.

Advocacy with Governmental, Non Governmental and
Community Based Organizations for establishing community
networks for referral of clients, follow-up, support and collaboration with

Development and conduction of Drug Prevention Programmes
through surveys, meetings, seminars, workshops and formation/training
of Self Help groups in the community, among youth in different settings,
NGOs, GOs, CBOs and various community groups, by creating general
mass awareness, mobilizing communities, providing life skills and
healthy alternatives to drug abuse.

Establishment of Human Resource Development Centre for
capacity building, vocational rehabilitation, life skills development, micro
enterprise and income generation skills development for DOST staff,
recovering addicts, health professionals, teachers and students.

Establishment of the Street Addicts Programme for the
motivational counselling, harm reduction, social and medical care,
treatment and rehabilitation of street addicts. The programme is carried
out in different street locations in Peshawar, where the hopeless and
homeless addicts in the last stages of drug abuse live and abuse drugs.

Development of a Therapeutic Community in the Peshawar
Central Prison for the treatment, rehabilitation legal assistance and
social reintegration of male addicts in prison.

Establishment of Two Drop-in Centre Therapeutic Communities
in Peshawar for providing motivational counselling, harm minimization,
treatment/ rehabilitation and aftercare services to the street addicts,
recovering addicts and other vulnerable groups such as juvenile
offenders and addicts released from prison.

Establishment of a Therapeutic Community for Women and
children in Prison providing rehabilitation, Primary Health Care,
medical/ social/ legal/ educational, life skills and vocational skill
development and re-integration services for the women and children in
detention in Peshawar Central Prison. Children are educated in a school
outside prison and families of inmates are provided counselling.

Development of a Therapeutic Community for Juvenile
Offenders in Peshawar Central Prison for the reformation,
rehabilitation, release and social reintegration of juvenile offenders in
detention. They are provided with educational/ medical/ social/ legal and
counselling services in prison.
Jan 2000-todate
Initiation of Human Rights Awareness and Free Legal Aid
Programme for Juvenile offenders and Women prisoners in
NWFP for Juvenile offenders, women and minor children.
DOST in collaboration with UNICEF, PRI and Govt Home department
conducts Awareness Seminars and Training Workshops on CRC, CEDAW,
UDHR, Juvenile Justice Ord 2000 for juvenile & women prisoners, prison
staff, police and Home department officials, and Community
Organizations in NWFP.

Initiation of HIV/AIDS, STDs and Hep B/C Awareness
Programmes for Juvenile offenders (male/female) and Women
prisoners in three Central Prisons of NWFP.
DOST in collaboration with ORA-International, CRS and Norwegian
Embassy in Pakistan conducts various awareness programmes on
HIV/AIDS, STDs and Hep B/C for Juvenile and women prisoners in three
central prisons of NWFP i.e. Peshawar, Haripur and DI Khan.

Initiation of Training and Capacity building programme for Drug
Abuse Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation for Female
Afghan Refugees in Camps.
DOST in collaboration with UNDCP-Afghanistan has started a three year
project for training and capacity building of Female Afghan health
workers, NGOs, Key persons in the camps to facilitate a drug abuse
prevention, treatment and rehabilitation activities for Afghan women in
the camps.

Initiation of Drug Abuse Prevention among Male Afghan youth
in a Refugee camp in Peshawar.
DOST in collaboration with British High Commission Pakistan has started
a one year project in a Refugee Camp in Peshawar aiming at creating
awareness among the male youth of the camp regarding drugs.
