Information sheet for Horseback Riding

Dear rider, parent, relative, or other!

Here comes some information about your lessons, how the rider should be dressed, how payments are made, etc. Please read carefully and if there’s anything you wonder about feel free to contact me!

Rider age - No specific age limit! We arrange for pony walks for the very young ones, while children from 4-5 years of age can commence with lessons. Our recommendation is to start with lesson duration of 15 minutes and build the length according to the child’s abilities.

Clothing-The rider should be wearing long (comfortable) pants: NO shorts. Shoes should have a slight heel (not more than a few cm) on them and a firm sole. Rain/hiking boots (or sneakers) usually work well: NO sandals.

Hats can be borrowed at the stables, for a period of time! Please make sure to get your own hat when you decide to continue. After 3 months a rental fee will be charged for use of hats, chaps and sticks. Note! Riding hats should be safety tested! The hat is to PROTECT your head if you fall of the horse. There’s a big difference between different makes (good makes: Ride-a-head, Horka). Do NOT get the thin Wembley

(most commonly sold hats in SA, they’re blue inside with black writing). You can check on the thickness of the hat if it’s a good hat or not. If it’s bendable it’s NOT a good hat. Have a look at www.westernshoppe.com

for riding equipment, and ask Lisa for shops closer by, or info on safety. Tsamadhi Riding School also orders equipment a few times a year and are happy to help.

For riders under 18 I would also suggest you look into getting a body protector after some time in the saddle (should meet European safety standard, BETA , Level 3 will give you the best protection). Do NOT get the SA-make, as they do NOT meet the

European safety standards.

A riding crop, stick will be allowed after a certain amount of lessons.

Lessons-

AM- cancellations by 19h00 the day before.

PM- cancellations by 10h00 the same day.

If lessons are NOT cancelled (for whatever reason) before these times they will be considered booked and charged for.

Cancellations can be made via SMS but a confirmation of the cancellation needs to be received to be valid (due to SMSs that go “missing” from time to time). Lessons will be given as long as weather allows, however we reserve the right to cancel your lesson at any time if we feel that the weather conditions are unsafe for horse/rider.

Public holidays- Are considered cancelled. However we will send out a message asking if you would like to come as usual, or if the lesson is cancelled.

Horses used for lessons- Tsamadhi’s Team is responsible for choosing the horses considered suitable for each student. Please note it is up to US to make the ultimate decision and we would like you to respect our decision as we do our best to accommodate the needs of every student. We are open to wishes, but ultimately, we decide!

Open Hours- We are open every day, Monday-Sunday, but give horses a break Sunday afternoons. Lessons can be started as from 7.00am and go on until it gets dark. The horses have a lunch break from 11.30-14.00.

Riding on your own- If we feel comfortable with your level of riding we might allow this. Please note that our main objective is to teach horseback riding, and many riders with different riding styles and capabilities can confuse our horses. Therefore we only allow riders that we feel have a similar style to ours, and as such beneficial to both the rider and the horse.

Outrides- Our horses are not trail horses, therefore we do NOT take out complete beginners. We request 5 min in the ring before allowing anyone to join an outride. If we consider the level not to be up to standard, this person can not join.

Time- You will be given a time for your lesson, make sure to be there 15 min (at least) BEFORE your lesson starts so you can get yourself and your horse ready! We have helpers (grooms) at the stables but they are only there to HELP, it is your responsibility that you and your horse are ready on time (if your horse is working the previous lesson, get yourself ready and wait next to the arena). Remember it’s on YOUR time, so please make sure to be on time.

Payments- Will be made monthly and should be paid on the first riding day of the month (at the latest). Any cancellations throughout the month will be deducted from the following months bill. Lessons can be paid in USD or MT (ask for weeks exchange rate) cash or cheque.

Fixed fee- A fixed monthly fee is charged for regular riders. This fee will be charged every month for as long as you want to remain a rider at the stables.

Cancellation of this fee ought to be made before the new month starts. This fee can

NOT be cancelled and re-activated a few months later (min 6 months in between).

A minimum of 3 months of this fee will be asked from you. For those who won’t be staying long, this fee can be incorporated into the price of the lessons (only for shortstay or non-resident riders).

Forms- You will be asked to sign an indemnity form, and provide us with your full name, email and phone number that we can reach you on at any time. Please make sure to inform us in case that any of these numbers changes.

Other riding possibilities- Out rides, pony walks, riding camps or other riding events can be organized. Pony rides at Birthday parties or other events can be organized

(if not too far from the stables).

Safety around horses- Bear in mind that horses are living individuals with different personalities! Stay calm around them.

Horses are flight animals and act upon instinct rather than common sense. Remember…

1.

Do not walk behind ANY horse at any time

2.

Do not scream, run, or play in the stables!

3.

Do not feed horses without asking for permission

Please be careful with small children (and yourself too), we have our horses loose and sometimes they come running and even though they don’t want intentionally to hurt you, they might not see you.

Looking forward to seeing you soon!

And wishing you happy riding,

Lisa
