Unit 1: Personal Identification
 Greetings & leave takings – basic introductions (ways of opening and closing
letters and stating why you are writing)
 Asking and stating name, health, age, origin, nationality, address, date you where
born, place you were born, birthdate, etc.
 Asking for and providing personal descriptions of yourself and others (adjectives
for hair/eye color, physical and personality features, etc.) *recognizing personal id
forms/ads (ie: student id cards, licenses, magazine subscriptions, personal ads,
etc.)
 Expressing one’s likes/dislikes / interests (activities/hobbies)
 Expressing qualities you look for in others such as friends – your favorite relative
and why?
Unit 2: Travel
 Book a trip with a travel agent and be able to ask pertinent questions in order
to find out information in booking a trip
 Obtain information about vacation destinations
 Describe your travel plans near future and in past (destination, dates, how
travel / class, where stay, what do/did, etc.)
 Read travel documents (RENFE train brochure, hotel brochure, ad for all
inclusive vacation, travel itinerary)
 Listen to and understand airport/flight announcements
Unit 3: Shopping
 Describing & identifying clothing and fashion for an occasion and what you and
others are wearing (clothing articles, materials, accessories, designs, etc.)
 Understand cultural size conversion chart
 Read and understand shopping ads (sales in stores)
 Being able to discuss a store sale or describe a shopping experience in your
favorite store – express what you want in a store
 Being able to describe how clothing looks and fits
 Being able to debate and purchase an item
 Write letters of complaint – past tense (what you bought, when, what is wrong
with it, why, return, etc.)
 Request notes of a company to ship you something you saw in a catalog (ask
information about it)
 Write notes of thanks (thanking someone for the gift you received, what you like
or dislike about it and how you are going to use it)

Test Outline: (formed just like a Regents based unit exam containing Regents Questions)
I. Listening: Listen as I read aloud background info. in English, followed by a passage
in Spanish twice, followed by a question.
 7 English questions and answers
 8 Spanish questions and answers
II. Reading: Shorts Ads / Long Passages (questions in English & Spanish)
 33 short ads / announcements
 2-3 longer reading passages
III. Writing: (3R)
Choose one letter on a topic covered (10-12 sents.)
Choose a picture to write a story about (10-12 sents.)
III. Grammar (3H) questions of multiple choice on grammar topics listed above
IV. Writing (3H): choose either a letter or a picture story to write about a topic (120
wds.)
