COW/CALF AND PROSPECT MARKET CALF
SHOW
St. Paul, MN (08/26/2011) - There was a total of 568 beef cattle shown at the 4-H Beef
Show. There were 42 cow/calf pairs and 50 prospect calves exhibited in the Beef Cow/Calf
Show. Judging this year’s Breeding Beef Show and Showmanship contest was Mike McGuire of
Waverly, Alabama. Mike graduated from the University of Georgia, he was a member of the
Livestock Judging Team, the Live Animal Evaluation Team, and the Block and Bridle Club. The
McGuires are in their 36th year raising purebred Angus and club calves. Mike has enjoyed judging,
breeding, and market cattle shows across the United States for the last 29 years.
The overall Grand Champion Cow/Calf was the Champion Simmental Cow/Calf pair shown
by Cassandra Hook of Redwood County and the overall Reserve Champion was the Champion
Black Angus shown by Kyle Nordstrom of Rice County.
The Grand Champion Prospect Calf was a steer exhibited by William O’Sullivan of Wright
County and the Reserve Champion Prospect Calf was a steer shown by Sara Weber of Lincoln
County. The animals showed on the first day of the fair Thursday, August 25th. Selection of the
overall winners was made during the 32nd Annual Beef Championship on Friday afternoon in the
Minnesota State Fair Coliseum.
