SITE SAFETY GUIDELINES
GENERAL






Safety is everybody’s concern.
Construction work can be dangerous & safety at sites is critical.
Your and others’ safety is vital to the well being of Habitat for Humanity.
Caution is the rule. Never put yourself or others at risk. Ask questions if you're not sure.
Think before performing a task. Ask a ‘Crew Leader or Project Manager’ for help, if you're
unsure.
It is important to know and follow safe work practices – Always.
SITE SPECIFIC

Note the location of First Aid kit(s) and understand how to get emergency help (numbers to call,
people to notify).

Proper clothing & footwear is essential. Protect your head, eyes, hands & feet, as appropriate. It is
mandatory that a Hard Hat be worn when people are working above you & it is required that
appropriate CSA-approved Work Boots be worn when working on the site. It is mandatory to wear
protective eye wear around tools where flying objects could be a danger.

Understand the proper use of power tools. Ask a ‘Crew Leader or Project Leader’ for instruction,
if you're unsure.

Be sure tools are clean and defective parts are fixed before using. Check switches, cords, plugs
for wear and ensure proper grounding is available. Avoid electrical shock by always using properly
grounded electrical tools (some are 2 pronged plugs & must be inserted properly).

Be careful when using power saws as the blade can bind and severe kick-back result.

Inspect ladders before using. Keep a proper slope on the ladder, using the rule of 1’ of horizontal

electrical lines.
