RESEARCH INTERESTS

The role of steroid hormones and steroid receptors in the pathophysiology of various organs/systems in humans. Clinical studies concern a) the role of steroid receptor mutations and steroid receptor signalling, especially glucocorticoid and estrogen receptors, in the aetiopathology of diseases such as breast cancer, autoimmune diseases, osteoporosis, cardiovascular diseases, bipolar disorder, Alzheimer disease and b) development of methods for steroid determination in blood, such as gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) and liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry

(LC/MS/MS). Studies at the cellular level concern 1) the steroid receptor-mitochondria interaction and 2) screening of synthetic/natural compounds for their biological effects on cellular systems, such

2 as breast cancer cells, prostate cancer cells, osteoblasts, endometrial cells, endothelial cells by use of molecular biology techniques.
