Primary Purpose of the Position
Lead and manage complex engineering assignments from concept through to implementation, entailing technical
specifications and detailed planning, and provide high level technical and strategic engineering advice to key stakeholders
across the Department/Agency as required.
Provide direction and oversight to a diverse team of professional engineers and technical staff in execution of project
responsibilities and towards a common goal.

Key Challenges and Influences

Maintaining an in-depth knowledge of relevant engineering legislation, building codes, policies and procedures.

Exercising judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria to resolve complex issues in creative and
effective manner to meet company objectives for engineering projects.

Effectively managing high level engineering projects which involve complex and sensitive stakeholder negotiations to
ensure that projects occur on time and within budget.

Communicating complex or technical aspects of projects and work assignments to peers, subordinates and clients.
Key Outcomes/Accountabilities

Lead and manage key engineering projects across the Department/Agency.

Provide high level technical engineering advice to a range of key stakeholders across the Department/Agency as required
to support engineering project delivery.

Develop design standards.

Handle troubleshooting and problem resolutions for issues that may not have prior application of engineering principles
and practices.

Manage, develop, coach and motivate a diverse team of professional engineers and technical staff, working on a number
of projects.

Oversee key members of engineering project teams, including engineers, technicians, site supervisors and contractors.

Review work delegated to other engineers for accuracy and adherence to required standards.

Develop strong networks and relationships with key customers, consultants, contractors, suppliers and planning
authorities, in order to effectively manage and deliver engineering projects.

Develop budgets and schedules for assigned projects and project tasks, within requirements of contracts, and manage
and oversee the engineering budget to mitigate risks and ensure that projects are delivered in a cost effective manner.

Maintain a detailed knowledge of relevant engineering legislation, building codes and policies and ensure that all
engineering work adheres to regulation and requirements.
