Sally Ann Fuller Gully 1815 Oct 29-1897 March 15 Born Providence, NY Parents: Edward M. and Hannah Fuller. Sealed to Joseph Smith for eternity January 29, (1846 or 1847?), Samuel Gully proxy, and sealed to Gully for time. (Sealing is not in Cook, Nauvoo Marriages and Proxy Sealings.) Nauvoo Temple Endowment Register: Endowment record has her as Fuller on 20 Jan, but sealing record has her as Sally Ann Smith! Her sister Ovenda was also sealed to Joseph Smith. Obituary—DEN, March 29, 1897, page 2—"Her first marriage was in being sealed to the Prophet JS. She subsequently married for time." Bapt May 28, 1837 at the place of her birth. Tinney, page 114—has her marrying Samuel Gully for time the same day she is sealed by proxy to Joseph Smith. She later marries an Elijah K. Fuller(!) in 1850. Brodie, Compton, and others have her as probably Bennett's "Mrs. G*****." This would require the possible misspelling "Gulley," but is not possible because she doesn't marry Samuel Gulley until after Joseph Smith dies, and when she does marry him it's polygamously, and therefore in secret. (Samuel Gully was legally married to Jane Frylick in 1833 and had a child in 1840. Jane remarries in Utah in 1852, but this is after Samuel had died in 1849 at Pottawattamie. [I got this info from Ancestry World Tree on Ancestry.com.]) So, even if Sally's marriage to Joseph Smith had been in his lifetime, she would still publicly have been known as "Miss Fuller," not "Mrs. Gully." The marriage to Joseph Smith was not polyandrous and she can't be Bennett's "Mrs. G*****." Randy Dixon let me look at a photocopy of the manuscript record of pre-Endowment House sealings that has her sealed for time to Elijah Fuller, in "E. Fuller's" house, 1850 September 8. This record shows her as: "Sally Ann Smith wd. Joseph Smith" i.e., it says she was a widow! "Widow" is not how a mere proxy wife would be listed. It indicates that she was married to him at the time of death. Sarah Fuller also appears in the Utah Cemetery Burials Database as "Sally F. Smith." Here is the record as I have it from http://history.utah.gov/apps/burials/execute/viewburial?cemeteryid=WG2700&id=6242 Burial Information: Smith, Sally F.
