Leadership and Service

Good Samaritan Clinic 2012 - 2014

This is a free faith-based clinic in Grand Junction for both uninsured and underinsured patients.

Clinic is operated on a walk-in basis once a month. Two providers at a time see patients and typically from 40 – 50 patients of all ages are seen.

Faculty Liaison and Honors Psychiatry Track 2012 - 2014

Chosen by the faculty as one of two residents to represent any concerns to the faculty at weekly meetings and to be part of an honors track. This faculty liaison role results in reformatting of rotations, alterations in clinic workflow, and enhancement of patient care. The honors psych track involves the development of a psych clinic and enhanced education in the fields of motivational interviewing, family therapy, and adult and pediatric psychiatry. Of note, there are no designated

Chief Residents at this residency program as each resident acts as chief for one month.

Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) - Albany

2007 - 2011

 FMIG president: Coordinated medical school functions and participated in community events including health fairs, primary care month, evening clinical skills workshops, cover the uninsured fundraisers, medical equipment acquisition for underserved clinics, instructing physical therapists on human anatomy with cadavers, teaching diabetes in middle school, and assisting with student recruitment events.

Political Activism

 I have been actively involved in both State and National lobbying for improved access to care, loan forgiveness programs to allow students to financially afford practicing in underserved communities after medical school, and reimbursement reform. This was a large factor in where I chose my residency program, as Grand Junction was discovered by the NEJM to provide the lowest cost with highest quality of medical care.

Global Partners Medical Mission

04/2009

 Global Partners is the mission arm of the Wesleyan Church. With their assistance, I organized and led a medical mission team to La Gonave, Haiti. This leadership involved fundraising, acquiring medications, assembling a team of students and physicians, arranging emergency medical evacuation back to America, and coordinating housing, transportation, and medical outreaches to remote island villages and area orphanages.

Hope for the Nations and Reach International Medical Missions

08/2008 (MS2), 8/2010 (MS3), 11/2012 (PGY2)

Hope for the Nations is a faith-based organization devoted to transforming the lives of vulnerable children throughout the world. Reach International is also a faith based organization with the goal of not only providing medical relief to remote and underserved

Filipino communities but also to teach them how to be self-empowered for their own health care. Through these organizations, I have been part of or led medical teams on the Island of

Mindanao in the Philippines as both a medical student and a resident. On the most recent trip,

Hurricane Pablo devastated an area just north of Davao City. Under the direction of the senior physician, I was placed in charge of a team of nurses, paramedics, and nurse midwives to provide relief care for New Bataan in Compostela Valley. Over the course of several days, treated hundreds of patients either injured by the storm or ill from the poor conditions in the aftermath.
