BOSTON MEDICAL CENTER
GENERAL SURGERY RESIDENCY PROGRAM
CLINIC POLICY
The Program Requirements for a residency in general surgery mandate that each resident
be provided with at least one day each week of outpatient experience during assignments
in the primary components of surgery. In this regard, the BMC General Surgery
Residency Program is committed to providing each resident with the opportunity to
examine patients preoperatively, consult with the surgical faculty, participate in the
operation and in the immediate postoperative care, and to see patients personally in an
outpatient setting for follow-up care. It is the responsibility of each resident to attend
surgical clinic at the respective facility for one day or two half days per week. Clinic
attendance is to be documented by signing the patient log and returning a copy to the
Education Coordinator on a weekly basis.
