OUTSTANDING INTERZUM RESPONSE FOR EGGER
Large numbers of visitors came to the EGGER “House of Inspiration” at
the leading trade fair for the furniture industry.
The Tyrolean wood-based material manufacturer EGGER made numerous
international contacts at the Interzum trade fair. Feedback from the trade
audience was highly positive in response to the products that were presented,
in particular pre-fabricated furniture components with clic joints, new decors
with synchronous pores on both sides and the new deep textures.
Since EGGER returned to the Interzum trade fair in Cologne two years ago, the
international industry gathering with around 53,000 visitors from 148 countries has
established itself as a permanent date on the trade fair calendar of the wood-based
material manufacturer. The summary by Hubert Höglauer, Marketing Manager
EGGER Group, in regards to Interzum 2013 is correspondingly positive: “Interzum
has once again proven itself as an international hub of the supplier industry this
year. The number of visitors to our ‘House of Inspiration’ was very high on all trade
fair days. We were especially pleased with the quality and internationality of the
visitors.” On the first day of the trade fair, contacts were intensified during the
Tyrolean Evening in the beer garden adjacent to the exhibition stand with Tyrolean
delicacies and traditional parlour music. “We also used Interzum to capture the
general mood within the industry – which is highly positive overall and supports our
own optimism for our new business year,” Höglauer explains.
EGGER CLIC TRADE FAIR HIGHLIGHT
Among the diversity of products on display, pre-fabricated furniture components with
clic joints presented to the public for the first time at Interzum were especially
popular. The clic system makes it possible to assemble furniture entirely without
tools. Instead of glue, screws or dowels, the individual components are joined using
a tongue & groove joint system milled into the material, reminiscent of the click
principle used in laminate flooring. As a result, end customers need nothing more
than their hands to assemble the clic system. The system therefore meets the
needs of social change with increased mobility and the trend in favour of buying
furniture online.
Visitors to the Interzum trade fair were enthusiastic about the straightforward
assembly of the pre-fabricated furniture components, which they tried for
themselves hundreds of times using clic cubes made from EUROLIGHT lightweight
building boards in bright, striking uni colours and modern woodgrain decors.
EGGER will support its customers in the furniture industry as a partner for shared
product development in addition to licensing the patented system for innovative
furniture designs in cooperation with Unilin.

FOCUS ON SURFACES
Current surface developments proved to be the main topic among the new decors.
With Feelwood, EGGER brought double-sided synchronous pore surfaces for
furniture to the market for the first time. The tactile characteristics of the
synchronous pore texture correlate with the visual markings of the grain, highlighting
the impression of genuine wood. This new surface experience is available in the
Feelwood Elegance, Feelwood Rustic and Feelwood Ambiance versions.
Next to the synchronous pores, additional surface trends were very well received by
the industry audience at Interzum. For example, a deeply brushed surface is popular
with Brushed Wood. The Ceramic version as well as the Soft Matt and Painted
Wood surfaces were in great demand as well. Overall a whole new variety of
combination possibilities therefore exists for surfaces.
“BEST OF THE BEST” AND VIRTUAL KITCHEN
The acoustically effective solutions with custom perforations were met with great
interest as well. EGGER and its partner akustik plus were honoured with the highest
award “best of the best” for this design feat at the interzum award: intelligent
material & design 2013. These acoustically effective solutions, which are available
for a variety of coreboards, set themselves apart in that customers can place orders
with any motif of their choice, which is then transferred to the acoustically effective
elements using precisely positioned bore holes and changing hole diameters.
Visitors almost had to form a line outside the VDS LIVE Kitchen Box too. This new
service for the kitchen industry is suitable for presentations in showrooms. It is a
further development of the multiple award-winning “Virtual Design Studio” software
(VDS), which projects decors onto a furniture carcass using just one projector. With
the VDS LIVE Kitchen Box, the projection surface consists of a kitchenette, three
meters (118”) in width, with top cabinets and individually configurable front panels,
handles and variable worktop thickness. Decors can be loaded interactively from a
library using a touch screen monitor and applied to the surfaces of the kitchenette.
THE EGGER DECOR WORLDS
New decors for the furniture industry constituted another focal point, presented
under the dual trend “Timeless – Spirit of the Time” this year. Powerful accent
colours, timeless wood types and the resulting, entirely new combination
possibilities were well received by trade fair visitors. The new edition of the ZOOM
Design Guide was also among the leading topics at this year’s Interzum trade fair.
This consulting tool for distributors, architects, carpenters and fabricators features
29 furnishing situations in private rooms and public facilities, presenting a variety of
design and combination possibilities with ZOOM decors. The Design Guide serves
as inspiration for projects, recommends materials and assists with argumentation in
customer consultations.

EVERYTHING FROM ONE SOURCE
Feedback for the special exhibition on the topic of “Everything from One Source”
was highly positive, especially among international visitors. A decor is used to
illustrate the variety of coreboards available to users for realising solutions. The
successful trade fair concept was rounded out by the integration of the edging
manufacturer ROMA in the exhibition stand as a subsidiary of the EGGER Group.
ROMA presented its melamine edging, PVC/ABS security edging and accent edging
tailored to meet the wide variety of customer requirements in the industry and
distribution.
All in all, the Interzum trade fair could hardly have gone any better for EGGER, says
Hubert Höglauer in conclusion: “Of course we will now be working with our
customers to successfully implement the innovations, which were presented at the
trade fair, in the course of day-to-day business. We are looking forward to that.”
