60 Years of Long March Forward
Founded in 1952, Chonnam National University (CNU) has remained committed to fostering
future leaders and professionals as one of the Korea’s leading universities with a reputation for its
research and teaching and important role in the local communities. Located in Chonnam
(Jeonnam or Jeollanamdo) province, at the southwest of Korea, CNU encompasses 17 colleges
and 11 graduate schools. With 2,200 academic staff, it provides comprehensive services to
30,000 students including 1,000 international students from 40 different countries in its strive to
build a “World Class” University, meeting the “Global Standard” with an open campus and
administrative system.
As a research university, CNU has been strong in such areas as robotics, mechanical engineering,
agriculture, information technology and bio-medicine among others, the last of which is
considered as one of the top fives among Korean universities. The total amount of research funds
exceeds $100,000,000 which constitutes one fourth of the annual expenditure.

CNU International Summer Session
Experienced scholars from Chonnam National University as well as scholars from partner
universities around the world will guide you to true intellectual endeavor with experience added.
Student participants can take up to 6 credits during the four-week period (from June to July) in
the CNU International Summer Session.

□ Airport Pickup Service
We offer airport pickup service at Incheon International Airport to incoming
exchange students. At the Gate D, CNU students will guide new incoming students
to take a limousine bus to get to Gwangju Express Bus Terminal. The bus ticket
costs approximately 30,900 KRW (USD 30.00). It will take about 4 hours to get to
Gwangju Express Bus Terminal. When they arrive in Gwangju Express Bus
Terminal, CNU students will take them to CNU dormitory and help them move-in
procedure.
□ Health Insurance
It is compulsory that incoming students purchase overseas insurance in their home country. If they
already have insurance from their home country, they are advised to bring proof of coverage when
they come to CNU.
Alternatively, students should purchase the insurance in Korea; full coverage for international
students costs around 170,000 KRW (USD 155.00) for a year and 100,000 KRW (USD 90.00) for a
semester.
□ Visa Requirement
Successful applicants will receive a Certificate of Admission from CNU. Students are needed to apply
for a Student Visa (D-2) at Korean embassy/consulate located in their home country.
