CLINICAL EXPERIENCE
Apart from my residency in Pediatrics and fellowship in Pediatric Infectious
Diseases, since 11/1996 I have been a full time clinical Pediatrician (Ward Attending)
in a tertiary teaching hospital. During this time I have been taking care of either
general Pediatric cases (40%) or children with infectious diseases (60%).
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I started my teaching experience as a fellow in Pediatric Infectious Diseases
Department, NYU Medical Center (06/93-06/95). During that period, I was
responsible of educating medical students normal newborn examination and
pathophysiology (Teaching Assistant in Pediatrics) as well as instructing residents
basic knowledge on Pediatric Infectious Diseases. Since 1996, I have been actively
involved in the education of medical students and pediatric residents as an Attending
Physician of the First and 2nd Pediatric clinic of the Athens Medical School, both
during rounds and by lectures. Since 2006 I have been responsible for the Pediatric
Resident curriculum.
RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
Over the past 20 years I have actively participated, planned and executed multiple
research projects. Initially the main focus was HIV infection in newborns and
children. Over the past years my main interest involves the epidemiology of vaccine
preventable diseases (hepatitis A and B, varicella, measles) and vertical transmission
of infections such as HCV and CMV. Also have participated as a sub-investigator in
multiple vaccine clinical trials. Have published 65 papers in peer reviewed journals
with a total IF of 251.85 (mean = 3.87). Total citations of 630 (including 29 self
reposting). Member of the editorial board and reviewer for of 2 and 9 peer reviewed
journals respectively.
