WELCOME
The Director of the Cooperative Programs and the Regional Retail Food Specialists of the FDA Central Region
invite you to attend the 27th meeting of the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic states, or now what is called the Central
Region states of the FDA.
This meeting is an annually held education and training seminar. This year’s seminar theme is “Enhancing the
Future of Food Protection”. As part of the FDA program under the U.S. Public Health Service Act, the FDA is
responsible for assisting state and local regulatory programs in the retail food, molluscan shellfish and milk safety
areas. The intent of this meeting is to bring all 15 FDA Central Region states plus the District of Columbia
together to meet and share information from past, present and future work in the retail food area. Additionally, the
FDA Central Region has always extended its seminar invitation to our industry and academia partners.
This seminar will require mandatory attendance by all FDA Standardized Food Safety Inspection Officers, or
those persons that are required to attend the seminar as part of their Standardization Maintenance.
For the 2015 seminar, we are honored to have two hosting agencies: the Virginia Department of Agriculture
and Consumer Services and the Virginia Department of Health.
HOTEL INFORMATION
The CROWNE PLAZA RICHMOND Hotel has been selected as the seminar host site. The Local Arrangements
Planning Committee can report that the hotel staff has gone to great lengths to make our meeting and
accommodations a total success.
The hotel is located in downtown Richmond and within walking distance of the James River, and numerous
restaurants and taverns.

TRANSPORTATION
The hotel does not provide a shuttle to/from the airport. Please take a cab (approximately $30.00) or the Groome
Shuttle from/to the airport ($35.00 each way) - Groome Transportation: 804-222-7222; toll-free 1-800-552-7911.
If you are driving, parking at the hotel has been reduced to $5.00 per night for seminar attendees.

HOW TO REGISTER (Rooms and Seminar)
A. ROOM RESERVATIONS: The Government rate of $113.00 per night plus tax. If you have not already made
a room reservation, there are two methods of reserving your room for the event:

2. Contact the hotel directly by phone and make your reservation by requesting a room under the room block
“FDA Regional Food Protection Seminar” by calling 855-472-7802 and speaking to our reservation agents to
make a reservation.

B. SEMINAR REGISTRATION: A Seminar fee of $225.00 has been established for all seminar activities. See
the attached Registration Form and send it in to the VA CASA as soon as you can.
C. REGISTRATION TABLE will be set up and open beginning on Tuesday, August 11 from 4:00 p.m.
until 7:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings from 7:00 – 10:00 a.m.
