The Leeds Genetics Laboratory offers diagnostic molecular genetic and cytogenetic
testing for a wide range of inherited and acquired conditions. We provide services for
both patients and families within the Yorkshire region as well as nationally and
internationally.
Close collaboration with the Translational Genomics Unit, a joint NHS and University
facility enables the rapid introduction of new technologies into the diagnostic setting,
most recently whole exome sequencing. Currently, over 70% of our molecular work is
carried out Next Generation Sequencing platforms. For a full range of services please
see our website http://www.leedsth.nhs.uk/a-z-of-services/molecular-genetics/.
Projects carried out in collaboration with Leeds University include the identification
of over 30 genes responsible for rare recessive conditions in the local Bradford
population, enabling a rapid translation of research into a diagnostic tests for patient
benefit.
This post has been created to work within the Molecular Genetics Team to further
develop and deliver our NGS capability. Applicants should have experience of a
broad range of molecular diagnostic techniques and diseases and be working towards
FRCPath. Experience of NGS is desirable but full training will be given to the right
candidate.
Interviews will be held on the 21st November.
