Deliverables from last call were discussed and group updated
JRC Demonstrated Babel website developed by Dan Connolly/Russ Waitman/GPC. BW commented
on utility for review of other network models. MK offered to upload fact statistics for Colorado
Childrens to site. Colleagues interested in access to site should contact Nathan Graham
(ngraham@kumc.edu) for an account.
KM, DM: Summary of planning for DSSNI face-to-face meeting 5/14 reported to group
KM, DM, MK, JRC: Email thread from past two weeks discussed and workplan proposals were
reviewed: 1) develop a comprehensive model that subsumes the semantic requirements of S&I,
OMOP, SHRINE, Mini-Sentinel or 2) establish workgroups to work on queries to serve CDMV1 from
our existing systems?
o MKahn: we are at a unique moment with PCORI funding and we should seize the
opportunity; an overriding model should be the goal of shared work; CB: The data
management requirements for compliance with PCORI CDMV1 for 7/1 are minimal and
should not drive our standardization efforts
o DM: target ETL developments pragmatically; develop a roadmap that can be pursued
incrementally
o MKahn: PedsNet plans to deploy much more that CDMV1; PedsNet is planning three rounds
of ETL development starting beginning with Obesity requirements and we have to be
responsive; others within discussion group concurred with choice of Obesity as priority
o SMurphy: Is the scope including decisions on i2b2 structures for optimization?
o JRC: Proposed plan: 1) KM(lead), DM, MBuck, CBailey, GHripscak, JRC to develop for next
call draft for discussion of data domain inventory with associated domain
ontologies/reference terminologies; 2) MKahn(lead), SM to convene discussion group to
propose draft prioritization plan by domain for standardization efforts; 3) A)they should
further identify team of i2b2 experts to examine requirements of first set of data domains.

CDRN i2b2 Model Build
4/21/2014
Goal: develop a standards-based i2b2 data model that can be employed across CDRNs supported by a
sustainable standards distribution process which will maintain standards alignment over time and serve
their data query and analytics requirements from multiple heterogeneous sites
Requirements/Use Case support:
1. Align with S&I data standards from ONC for all data domains originating from or required by the
enterprise EHR
o align other data resources with these standard ontologies and valuesets whenever
possible
o identifying the centerpiece of ONC interoperation as CDA/CCD data extracts, assure that
a the HL7 V3 CCD extract is supported for all CCD data domains when such data are
present in the site EHR
o assure ability to respond to Quality Model query data extracts
2. Support response to PCORI common research data model queries across all sites
o anticipating that additional elements of Mini-Sentinel model are likely to be required as
PCORI CDM expands maximize alignment with deployment of further PCORI data
domains
o analytics platform standardization has not been identified as a requirement by PCORI
3. Support extracts to OMOP common data model analytics datasets for drug surveillance and
adverse event monitoring
4. Scalable business model for obtaining, formulating for i2b2 and distributing to all parties
ontologies identified as domain ontologies
Editorial principles
 Attribute context and source of data for all facts; preferentially with modifier dimension
 Attribute information source when appropriate for data re-use; esp when patient originated
 Assure minimal/no data loss on query between models
