Psychology-(Worth 100 pts=test grade)
Directions:
You must choose and research one of the nine topics/sub-topics and prepare a power-point
presentation for class. You may use the internet and/or classroom Psychology text to discuss and
answer the topic and sub-topical questions. Please use graphs, charts, photographs and summary
tables. You may work in groups of 2 or 3 if necessary.
Due: Tuesday, January 17.
We will be in the computer lab for the following days (Thursday-Friday, January 12-January 16)
1. Brain-Learning- Can the Brain and Nervous System Heal themselves (discuss), Einstein’s brain
(how and why was it different from the average human), Engineering Smarter mice, How do we
learn, Can animals learn like humans.
2. Sensation- Advertising and Sub consciousness, Cortical Specialization, The Experience of paindelight, anger, joy, how does the brain respond?, How do we see objects and shapes(discuss),
Do Humans communicate with Pheromones?
3. Perception-Television and Radio (how does it impact our perception), Understanding and
comprehension, Experiences and the brains interpretation, culture and perception (compare the
Western World to the Eastern World). Theories of visual perception, Empirical theories of
perception, Anne Treisman's Feature Integration Theory, Interactive Activation and
Competition, Irving Biederman's Recognition by Components Theory

States of Consciousness-Daydreams, subconscious, Sleep- Nightmares(what is the brain doing),
deja vous(having been there). How does the brain work when experiencing the below topics:
Autoscopy, Anxiety, Battle trance, Coma, Convulsion, Delirium, Depersonalization.
5. Cognition, Language-Solving Problems, Learning to be creative, nonhuman cognition,
Extrasensory perception, where is knowledge stored in the brain?, How is knowledge stored in
the brain?.

Intelligence-Multiple Intelligences, Brain Dominance, The Flynn Effect, Biological
Measurements of intelligence, Hereditary and Environment affects on intelligence, Savants,
Mental Retardation.
7. Mental Abilities-Research and discuss talents, skills, and how the brain interacts or
demonstrates mental abilities, etc.

Motivation-Primary Drives, Memory and eating, sex drive, culture, aggression, mob mentality,
socialization.

Emotion-discuss the difference between men and womens brains regarding emotions. How the
brain reads the face, non-verbal cues, Why are some people happier than others, discuss
emotions of fear, peace and the brains role in each?
10. Mental Disorders and etc- serial killers brains (are they different, how?), average brain activity,
what are different parts of the brain responsible for processing?, stroke victims brains(how are
they different)
