YOUTH ART CONTEST WINNERS ANNOUNCED AND ON DISPLAY IN
COMMUNITY ART SHOW
Washington, DC [March 27, 2014] – The National Cherry Blossom Festival is pleased to announce the
winners of the 2014 Youth Art Contest. The Youth Art Contest and Community Art Show, coordinated in
partnership with the DC Arts & Humanities Education Collaborative was open to all DC public and charter
school students in grades K-12. Students depicted how they would like to “Step Into Spring” with the National
Cherry Blossom Festival through their entries. Congratulations to the following first, second, and third place
winners within four grade categories. The public will now determine the overall winner from these 12 finalists:

The public can view all the students’ creativity and vote on the overall winner at the Community
Art Show at PEPCO Edison Place Gallery, 702 8th Street, NW, going on now until April 24,
Tuesday through Friday from noon to 4:00pm. Voting will also take place on Facebook. The
gallery will have extended school viewing hours for a School Viewing Day on Saturday, April 5
from noon to 4:00pm. The Youth Art Contest and Community Art Show is supported by Pepco
Edison Place Gallery and media partners The Washington Post, WPGC 95.5, and El Zol 107.9.
The National Cherry Blossom Festival is the nation's greatest springtime celebration. The 2014
Festival, March 20 - April 13, includes three spectacular weeks and four weekends of events featuring
diverse and creative programming promoting traditional and contemporary arts and culture, natural
beauty, and community spirit. The 2014 Festival commemorates the 102nd anniversary of the gift of the
cherry blossom trees and the enduring friendship between the United States and Japan.
