EVENT INFORMATION
LISTENING LIKE A WRITER
The Embodied Experience of Analytic Listening
Fred L. Griffin, MD
Saturday, September 13, 2014
9:00 a.m.-12:00 noon
This is a mini-workshop intended to expand sensibility in psychoanalytic listening. It is adapted from a
ten-session seminar in which participants did a close reading of Virginia Woolf’s To the Lighthouse
coupled with the presentation of analytic case material.
Following a presentation in which Dr. Griffin will provide a conceptual framework for the use of
imaginative literature to teach analytic listening, the participants will be presented with selected excerpts
from To the Lighthouse, to which they will do a piece of free writing about a clinical experience that
comes to mind. Several participants may then choose to read aloud what they have written for purposes
of group discussion.
CME/CEU credits available for $25. Please bring a check, made out to DPC for $25, or exact change.
Evaluation forms will be provided and all attendees need to complete one, in order to receive credit (the
accreditation agencies are really “tightening up”. Certificates will be mailed following the program.
