What is safeguarding?
It might be difficult to accept, but every child can be hurt, put at risk of harm or abused, regardless of their age, gender,
religion or ethnicity.
Safeguarding legislation and government guidance says that safeguarding means:
 protecting children from maltreatment
 preventing impairment of children’s health or development
 ensuring that children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care.
 taking action to enable all children and young people to have the best outcomes
“the action we take to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm - is everyone’s responsibility.
Everyone who comes into contact with children and families has a role to play.”
Working together to safeguard children (HM Government 2013)
Is there safeguarding legislation?
In England the law states that people who work with children have to keep them safe. This safeguarding legislation is set
out in The Children Act (1989) and (2004). It also features in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (to
which the UK is a signatory) and sets out the rights of children to be free from abuse. The Government also provides
guidance in their document Working Together to Safeguard Children 2013.
Other things to think about ………
1. Keeping children busy: paper, crayons, cards, books, puzzles, laptop and DVD (SUITABLE FOR THEIR AGE)
2. Ensure dancers cover up in between dances

Hair, Make Up and Costumes
Sunday 10th May Rehearsal
- No costumes required, normal dance uniform either blacks or purples. All dance footwear
required
- No stage make up required
- No stage hair styles. However hair must be tied back out of the way
Sunday 17th Dress Rehearsal
- All show costumes, including hair accessories and footwear
- No stage make up required

Stage Make Up
Dancers will arrive with their foundation and powder on. Students will also bring their own mascara
and eye liner (older dancers only). The dance school will provide the eye shadow, blusher and lipstick.
This will be applied by chaperones
Stage Hair
Where possible students will arrive with their hair done. However if student’s can’t do their hair or a
hairstyle is incorrect it will be done by chaperones. Students will be bringing their own hair products
and comb etc
STUDIO A, B and CHANGING ROOM 4 - Right side parting into a bun by the child’s left ear
Doughnuts may be used for this if needed, sometimes a hair net is required to stop
hair coming out of the bun
ROOM 2 & 3 – A classical ballet bun. A hair net will be required to do this style, no
doughnuts
