Mayo Reports to Academic Director, Centre for Global Women’s Studies, NUI Galway JOB ADVERTISEMENT Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a fixed-term, full-time appointment as Academic Co-ordinator with The Victoria House Foundation Limited, hereinafter referred to as The Mary Robinson Centre, in association with the Centre for Global Women’s Studies, at NUI Galway and Mayo County Council. The post is fixed term until the end of September 2016. Job Purpose: The post holder will be responsible to the Academic Programme Director for the development and coordination of a schedule of academic activities for The Mary Robinson Centre and a range of administrative duties. These will include: a visiting scholars scheme, public lectures and events, a summer school, short courses, and research and learning visits. Qualifications: The ideal candidate should have a Masters degree in a relevant area such as Education, Environment/Climate Change, Gender/Women’s Studies, Human Rights, International or Community Development, Migration, Peace and Conflict, or similar thematic postgraduate programme in which global issues, gender and/or women’s participation formed a significant focus of study or research. The candidate should be able to demonstrate a capacity to contribute to the development and implementation of academic activities and events (e.g., workshops, public lectures), as well as learning/training materials that foster synergies among researchers, practitioners and communities. Candidates should have excellent English communication and organizational skills including a facility with social media; be highly self-motivated, and be able to present effectively both orally and in written format. Desirable criteria include a PhD, relevant publications, and experience and knowledge of module development and delivery in online learning environments. Strong IT skills and proficiency in a second widely-used language would be an advantage. JOB DESCRIPTION The successful candidate will coordinate the Women’s Leadership & Global Issues Programme of The Mary Robinson Centre, under the supervision the Academic Programme Director in the Centre for Global Women’s Studies, NUI Galway and the Project Manager of The Mary Robinson Centre. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Visiting Scholar Scheme Design modalities and implement The Mary Robinson Centre visiting scholars scheme in line with international standards Prepare and disseminate calls for applications from prospective visiting scholars Coordinate application, review and selection process Manage promotion, communications and logistics relating to the scheme and to selected scholars’ visits and itineraries Liaise with visiting scholars to facilitate engagement with The Mary Robinson Centre and archive and to input into content development, writing projects and public events of The Mary Robinson Centre Speakers’ Series and Research Visits Coordinate The Mary Robinson Centre Women’s Leadership & Global Issues speakers series, 2015-2016 Coordinate student and research visits to The Mary Robinson Centre Develop a short orientation programme and accessible learning activities to support student engagement with The Mary Robinson Centre archives on small research projects relating to Women’s Leadership & Global Issues Document visits and liaise with visiting researchers to gather material (photos, testimonies) for inclusion in website, blogs and other outlets Manage all promotion and communications relating to speakers’ and research visits on theme of Women’s Leadership & Global Issues Summer School and Online Short Course Develop an inaugural Summer School (2016) curriculum with the Academic Programme Director (theme: women’s leadership, climate justice, human rights) Coordinate promotion and registration process for the Summer School Manage communications and logistics relating to participation of Summer School registrants and invited speakers and contributors Coordinate the documentation of materials and video-audio recording of Summer School sessions Prepare and disseminate to participants appropriate learning materials and resources in advance of the Summer School Design and conduct participant evaluations to inform the review and improvement of Summer School curricula Develop a short, open access, online course based on the Summer School Promote and track uptake and completion of the short course Research and publications As appropriate, work with the Academic Programme Director and/or visiting scholars to undertake research, provide research assistance and contribute to writing articles for publication in relevant journals Provide academic support and guidance to Summer School participants and visiting researchers Promotion & Communication Answer queries from prospective students/scholars/specialists and others interested in the Women’s Leadership and Global Issues Programme Develop content relating to the Women’s Leadership & Global Issues Programme for website, social media and other outlets Administration and Management Prepare or contribute to preparation of reports to funders, the board of The Mary Robinson Centre and/or the Centre for Global Women’s Studies Contribute to preparation of grant applications related to the academic programme of The Mary Robinson Centre Organise and maintain records relating to areas of responsibility ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS Essential Requirements: Primary Degree and Masters Degree in a discipline relevant to Women’s Leadership & Global Issues. Demonstrated capacity to develop and implement thematic activities and events (e.g., workshops, public lectures) and learning/training materials. At least one year’ relevant professional work experience. Demonstrated ability to write reports and strong documentation skills. Excellent communication and writing skills, with an ability to communicate effectively across social media channels. Strong organizational skills. Self-motivated, with the flexibility and capacity to multi-task, the ability to interact effectively with others and to work as part of a team. A demonstrable interest in applying a gender perspective to research and practice across various domains, especially in relation to timely global issues.
