Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time fixed term position as a Researcher Software Engineer with the Discipline of IT at the National University of Ireland, Galway.
This position is funded by Enterprise Ireland and is available from March 1st 2015 to contract end date of
August 31st 2016.
The FarmEye project is a joined collaboration initiative between the Department of Geography
(http://www.nuigalway.ie/geography) and the Discipline of IT (http://www.it.nuigalway.ie) at NUI Galway. It
involves domain experts from a wide range of areas including geo-spatial statistics, GIS, farm management
and ICT.
The FarmEye project has a strong commercial focus and it is envisaged that it will result in a start-up
company.
Job Description:
The successful candidate will work on developing next generation farm management and farm intelligence
software for Irish and international customers.
The successful candidate will adopt a range of technologies to build customised software solutions for the
farming community. They will liaise closely with researchers / domain experts from other disciplines are well
as with beta testers and trial partners.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should have a track record in a software development environment and strong IT /
software development experience is essential. Applicants must have a 3rd level qualification in computer
science or applied ICT. The ideal candidate would have experience in app development, GIS, modeling, GUI
design, databases, client / server and web programming. Candidates should have excellent communication
and organizational skills; be highly motivated and passionate about developing new products; and have
strong documentation, oral and interpersonal skills.
Salary: €32,930 - €40,003 per annum (public sector pay policy rules pertaining to new entrants will apply)
Start date: Position is available from March 1st 2015.
