Honor Cord Program
Purpose:
 To recruit high school students to donate at least four
times before they graduate
 To build brand loyalty with our high school donors so
they choose LifeSouth over competitors in between
the drives at their school
 To recognize and thank high school donors
Messaging:
 Graduate with lifesaving honors. LifeSouth’s honor
cord program allows high school students to receive
the Honor Cord of Courage at graduation for the
accomplishment of donating blood four times before
high school graduation.
Target:
 High school students age 16+
Collateral:
• Letter template to send to contacts at high school
• 11x17 posters
• Half-page flyers
• Donor card to keep track of donations
• Congratulatory half-page flyer
• Silver/red twisted honor cords at graduation
• Electronic FB badge
How it works:
 Use the letter template to send to your school’s principals/superintendents/etc. to
request permission for students to wear our honor cords at their graduation
 Poster put up at high school drives that promotes the honor cord program
o Explains that students must donate four times WITH LIFESOUTH to earn
a cord for graduation
o Explains that students can check the Donor Kiosk online or call Donor
Scheduling to find out how many donations they have so far
 Students will be given a half-page flyer and business card sized donor card with
the honor cord information on it so they have a takeaway at their high school
drive as a reminder of the program
 Each time they donate, a donor services tech can sign off a slot on their donor
card at the post-donation location
 After four donations:
o Students can call Donor Scheduling with any questions or verification of
their donation status
o Students call Donor Scheduling after their four donations (their donor card
can help them keep track of this)
o Each donor will be verified in IBBIS by Megan Watkins that they have
made at least a minimum of four donations with LifeSouth
o Once all names have been verified, the cords will then be sent to each
recruiter for delivery to each high school a minimum of two weeks prior to
graduation
o The student receives a silver/red twisted graduation cord via the high
school chairperson and/or recruiter
o Students also receive a congratulatory flyer that thanks them for donating
& explains how to download the electronic Facebook badge
o Students can go to the website to download the honor badge for their
Facebook page (http://www.lifesouth.org/high-school-fb-graphic/)
Password: lifesouthlovesyou
 This recognition process is donor owned
o Donors must monitor their own donations and ask to be added to the list to
receive the cord at graduation
