PURPOSE OFJOB:
Provide support for Design Technology, Construction and
Engineering
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES















To maintain and service machinery and equipment within the faculty to H&S
standards
To maintain and service all hand tools
To prepare materials for Resistant Materials, Engineering, Construction,
Product design and Electronics lessons
To prepare equipment needed for Resistant Materials, Engineering,
Construction, Product design and Electronics lessons
To organise storage of materials
To prepare and make teaching aids for use in the DT area
To order supplies / resources in accordance with Financial Regulations
To carry out safety checks in accordance with the DCC Procedures and
general health and safety arrangements
To work alongside the Design and Technology staff in the general running of
the learning environment
To carry out inventory checks
To carry out photocopying as required
To collect/record money taken for DT projects
To keep up-to-date with new technology and new developments
Respond to staff requests and troubleshoot problems
To be responsible for ensuring the WALS Centre (Construction and




Engineering Centre) is resourced and machinery is fully operational
To ensure any training groups using the WALS Centre are able to operate
effectively
Instruct small groups of students, particularly in electronics, construction or
engineering, under guidance of teaching staff
Manage the CAD/CAM and ICT facilities in the faculty
Ensure cover work, provided by teachers, is available when necessary
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES







Take an active part in appraising their own work against agreed priorities and
targets in accordance with the college’s performance management
Contribute to the College Improvement Plan targets
Undertake any necessary training associated with the duties of the post
Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child
protection, security, confidentiality, equal opportunities and data protection,
reporting all concerns to the appropriate person.
Comply with the Health and Safety Policy of the college with regard to the
wellbeing of themselves and others
Carryout other duties commensurate with the level and grade of the post as
directed by line or day-to-day management
The responsibilities and duties attached to this role will be reviewed annually
as part of the performance management process and may be subject to
change. Any amendments requiring a change in grade or that are not within
The general remit of the role will only be made after consultation with the
post- holder.
