BEHAVIOUR FOR LEARNING POLICY
September 2014
”In everything therefore treat people the same way you want them to
treat you”.
Matthew 7:12
‘This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of all
children, and expects our staff and volunteers to share this commitment’
1. Principles of the Policy
Corpus Christi Catholic College is a community where behaviour management processes
are formulated in the light of Gospel values, ensuring the rights of teachers to teach and
students to learn in a safe, orderly and caring Catholic Christian community. We make it
clear within our aims that we have high expectations of behaviour and academic
progress. We also value the climate of mutual respect that exists within the school and
which supports a positive learning environment for all. The Behaviour for Learning Policy
is designed to support students and staff in achieving these expectations by providing
clarity and consistency in terms of our expectations, rewards and sanctions.
2. Aims
• To contribute to a safe, orderly and caring Christian environment.
• To promote a positive environment in teaching areas and around school where
learning can be effective and staff and students feel safe and respected.
• To minimise low-level disruption so that the maximum amount of time is available for
learning, enabling all students to have a positive experience of the curriculum.
• To encourage and develop a sense of personal responsibility and accountability by
students and emphasise that they make clear choices regarding their behaviour.
• To ensure that students, staff, parents and governors are fully aware of the expected
behaviour within lessons and around school, and our clearly defined and graduated,
rewards and sanctions.
• To empower staff with the confidence, skills and knowledge to respond in a
consistent and effective way to challenging and difficult situations; thereby reducing
conflict and uncertainty in encounters between students and staff and enabling students
and staff to emerge from difficulties with a positive sense of themselves and their
purpose.
• To develop systems of recording that ensures detailed information on student
behaviour is available to all staff as appropriate.
• To communicate with parents quickly where significant positive or negative
intervention has taken place.
3. Implementation
For the Behaviour for Learning systems to be effective all staff must be consistent in
applying rewards and sanctions, and in challenging inappropriate behaviour wherever
and whenever it occurs.
4. Roles and Responsibilities of Staff
The Senior Leadership Team takes overall responsibility for this policy and its
implementation. As part of their general responsibilities for management of the school,
the Governors have played a key role in the development of the schools Behaviour for
Learning Policy and they will continue their involvement through regular evaluation of it.
The Pastoral Team and Subject Leaders, led by the Assistant Head Teacher has a general
responsibility for supporting other members of staff in the implementation of this policy.
5. Monitoring, Evaluation and Review
The Governing Body will review this policy every three years and assess its
implementation and effectiveness. The policy will be promoted and implemented
throughout the school.
6. Availability
This policy will be available upon request through the school office
This policy is accompanied by a clear and detailed staff support booklet, and a pupil
