Brief description of the importance of this organism to the scientific world:
Arthrospira platensis also called Spirulina platensis is a cyanobacteria found locally in alkaline salt lakes.
Unlike the other A. platensis strains, A. platensis C1 performed a single colony with non-gliding ability
and able to used for arsenic culture selection. Based on these abilities, A. platensis C1 is selected to be
used in the lab for genetic study. Extensive studies in both lipid desaturation mechanism and
physiological conditions for cell growth have been performed using this strain. Genome data of A.
platensis C1 would complete strain information and further use for comparative study with the other
available genomic data.

A. platensis C1 genomic DNA have been sequenced and estimated at 6.09 Mb in size and possessed
as a single, circular chromosome.
NOTE:

This is the first draft sequence of A. platensis C1 genome.

The sequences have been assembly into one circular genome with 63 contigs and 63 gaps
remaining.

“n” is represented for sequences in gaps. 46 of know gaps have been reported here while 17 of
unknown gaps are still remaining in the circular genome.

Gene annotation also included in this draft genome sequence.

The order of each contig is consider as submitted order, however, the sequences and order will
be replaced by the complete A. platensis C1 genome when it is available.

The accession number of each ORFs will be preserved between this draft genome and the
complete genome.
