SCHOOL VISIT TO GERMANY, JULY 10th – 15th 2016
This year we are going to take a group of students from The Kimberley School on an
educational visit to Koblenz in Germany.
Travel is by full executive coach (seatbelts fitted) and Dover – Calais ferry: the coach
and drivers are with us throughout, and the coach is at our disposal for excursions.
Provisional Timings:
(Outward) Depart Kimberley 12.15am (just after midnight, Sunday morning) 10th July
(Return)
Arrive Kimberley 10.30pm Friday 15th July
Accommodation is 5 nights’ half board in the youth hostel in Koblenz, where all rooms
have ensuite shower and WC.
Koblenz is a beautiful city in its own right, but is also ideally situated to explore the
fascinating valleys of the Rhine and Moselle rivers, with vineyards and castles around
every corner. During the trip we will do most or all of the following: river cruise to or
from Boppard (‘Pearl of the Rhine’, with ride on chair lift); cable cars over the Rhine to
and from Deutsches Eck (confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers); short tour of the
historic centre of Koblenz and shopping in the pedestrianised area around Am Plan and
Löhrstraße; Rϋdesheim, with cable car to Niederwald monument; Loreley rock; tour of
castle (Marksburg and/or Burg Eltz); swimming parks in Cochem and/or Koblenz;
locally produced grape juice/wine tasting.

The Koblenz Ehrenbreitstein Youth Hostel is part of a medieval fortress set high on a
rock on the east bank of the Rhine, commanding a spectacular view of Deutsches Eck
and the city of Koblenz. An area adjacent to the fortress was one of the sites for the
Bundesgartenschau (BUGA) 2011, the national garden show, and the whole fortress
including the youth hostel has enjoyed much investment and renovation.
The price of the trip is £390. This includes all travel and accommodation, collective
passport, insurance and excursions/entry fees. The pupils will need spending money
only for lunch, souvenirs, presents if desired, drinks etc. A deposit of £70 is required in
the first instance - please bring the slip and money (cash or cheques payable to
‘Kimberley School’) to main school reception at break OR pay via the ‘squid’ online
payment system - with a further £150 payable by 4th March and the remainder
payable by 6th May.
This trip is to a particularly scenic part of Germany, where we have enjoyed good
weather in the past. The pupils will be provided with a booklet containing information
and various language tasks as fieldwork while on the trip. Only well motivated pupils,
who we are confident will behave sensibly on a foreign residential trip, will be allowed
to go.
If you would like your son or daughter to participate, please return the attached slip
with £70 (cash or cheque payable to Kimberley School) to main school reception (at
morning break only) by Friday 15th January. Once your place on the trip has been
confirmed, please regard the first deposit as non-returnable.
