Dear Families,
There is an important meeting that I’d like to invite
you to in October. This is the annual Title I parent
information meeting October 19th at 4:00
p.m. During the meeting, I will share with you how
our school participates in Title I, the requirements
that we must follow to participate, how we
determine school programming supported by Title I
funds, and what you can do to support your child
within the program as well as ways you can provide
input into decision making process. I hope to see you
there!
Be on the lookout for our 2nd Lifeskills assembly this
month. First and second graders will host this
assembly. It’s your chance to see your kids share
their knowledge of the Lifeskills with others. Date
and time will soon be confirmed. We’ll put it in the
newsnote as soon as it is.
Please print and review the Tongass School yearly
calendar attached to this newsnote. Of importance
this month, our Tongass School students will be in
school on Friday, October 23rd. We see that the
school lunch calendar has indicated there is no
school. However, we have different conference days
than other elementary schools. Our students will be
in school on October 23rd. Lunch for that day will
include burritos! Our student conferences will be
held in November. Your teachers will be contacting
you to set up an appointment. Contact the office with
any questions at 225-5720.
TSAS Family: We are going paperless on the
news note. I will be sending this out weekly
to you via School Messenger. If there is any
material that needs to be completed by you
for your student, we will send this home with
your student. Of course, we will have some
copies of the news note at the front office, if
needed.

Title I Annual Parent Meeting
Monday, October 19, 2014
4:00-5:00 pm
We would like to invite all parents to
our Title I Annual Meeting on Monday,
October 19, 2014 from 4:00-5:00pm. We
will discuss how you can be involved in
your child’s education, many aspects
of the Title I program at our school, our
school data, and our goals for the new
school year.
Ms. Jane is our English Second Language teacher, and is such an invaluable
resource for TSAS. Ms. Jane is a very kind and patient teacher, and an incredible
advocate for her kids. Ms. Jane works tirelessly to get our children what they need
and deserve. You will often find her sitting with teachers discussing shared students
and how to better serve them, sometimes even after the school day is done. Ms. Jane
also has a great talent for weaving together songs and stories in her teaching.
These songs and stories really connect with kids, and may even be heard coming
from students from her very popular enrichment cooking class called, “Yum and
Learn.” Ms. Jane touches the lives of students not only at our school, but also at
other schools in our District as well. But we sure know how lucky we are to have her
here at TSAS. Thank you Ms. Jane for all that you do!
Here are some things that kids at TSAS have said about Ms. Jane:
“She is very kind and nice.”
“I think she is very talented.”
“She sure can cook!”
“I like the songs that we learn sometimes.”
“She is very smart.”
Ms. Cindy is one of the first people students and parents see upon
entering our school and what a great Ambassador she is for TSAS! Ms.
Cindy is our fearless health aide, and has been called by many, “the heart
of our school.” As she loves and takes care of all of our staff and students,
Ms. Cindy does it all with a very empathetic ear. Whether she is tending to
a bump or a bruise, hurt feelings, or even a loose tooth, Ms. Cindy skillfully
takes care of each and every one of her patients. She is quick with a smile, or words of
encouragement, and her laughter is infectious. Ms. Cindy puts parent fears at ease, as she goes
above and beyond, when it comes to taking care of the TSAS students. Ms. Cindy is also one
of our very valued members of our Academic Policy Committee, as well as a member of the
Health and Wellness Committee. Her dedication, and the energy that she invests in our school
seems limitless. And we surely love our Ms. Cindy.
Here are some things that TSAS kids have said about Ms. Cindy:
“She is beautiful.”
“Nice, generous, and helpful.”
“A genius and a miracle woman.”
“Funny, silly, and kind.”
Ms. Karen is our Speech/Language Pathologist here at TSAS.
Ms. Karen helps students who may have challenges in this area, and does
it with talent and skill. Students who come to see her do a lot of hard work,
and it can be very challenging as they learn to become more proficient in
their speech. If you walk into her office, you may see squishy balls,
magnetic puzzles, blocks, and maybe even an iPad. All of which are tools
Ms. Karen uses to engage her students, so that they can continue to strengthen
their skills. Ms. Karen is so masterful at what she does, she has the ability to
turn tasks that can be taxing into fun and engaging lessons for her students.
Ms. Karen is also always very friendly and hardworking. She brightens the day
of everyone she meets with a kind word and a smile. We appreciate Ms. Karen
and all of the time and effort she puts into enabling our students to achieve the
ability to speak with confidence. Thank you Ms. Karen for working so hard for
our children to succeed.
Here are some things kids at TSAS have said about Ms. Karen:
“She is nice and friendly.”
“I think she is very talented.”
“Fun, kind, and helps us when we need it.”
“She let’s us play on the ipad.”
“I like how she always smiles.”
