The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics and Industrial Design in the Faculty of
Engineering and the Built Environment requires the service of a full-time Junior Lecturer: Industrial Design.
CRITICAL PERFORMANCE AREAS







Provide sound academic teaching and learning practices with continuous Teaching and Learning
with Technology (TLT) innovations in the field of product design, product manufacturing and
product multimedia.
Participate or lead, if necessary, curriculum development.
Compile and maintain quality study and practical guidelines, subject files and other TLT materials.
Participate in research and innovation activities linked to industrial design.
Lead and participate in community engagement projects. Engage in departmental, faculty and
institutional initiatives.
Responsible for the management and execution of small to medium sized independent research
and innovation projects.
Liaise with industry regarding practical training, advisory committee meeting, industry visits and
other related activities.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Academic Qualifications:
 A relevant Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design
Experience:
 Significant teaching, research and/or industry experience related to the field of industrial design.
 Must have the potential and intention to further studies to the level of Master’s degree in the area
of industrial design.
