About the Job: UGA’s Facilities Management Division is pleased to consider candidates for the positions of Design (Mechanical) Engineer and Design (Electrical) Engineer. This is a mid-career level position. Successful candidates will demonstrate competencies in the area of project management, with an emphasis on mechanical, plumbing and sanitary work. UGA's Athens campus has approximately 743 acres, with 633 building structures that are continuously being updated to meet the needs of our faculty, students, and the many visitors attending events on UGA’s campus. **Candidates must apply online in UGA’s employment system (IPAWS) for full consideration Please see the link below ** Summary: The Design (Mechanical) Engineer and Design (Electrical) Engineer will perform design, design development, cost estimating, field verification, and construction administration for alteration, renovation and repair of mechanical and plumbing services and associated work in existing and new university buildings. This individual may also be responsible for supervising drafting personnel engaged in the planning, design and estimating of such projects. This position will report and work directly under the general direction of a Head Mechanical/Electrical Engineer or the Director Administrative-Engineering; some independent work may take place. The employee is expected to abide by general policies and procedures while also showing initiative and creativity within the scope of policy directives. The breakdown of responsibilities for the Mechanical Engineer job is as follows: 1. 70% Design: Including detailed field verification of existing CAD drafting, computer aided calculations, assisting others with their design work 2. 15% Manage Design Professional services provided to FMD by private firms - can vary depending on the available Engineering Department resources 3. 10% Construction period services: attend site meetings, verify work is done to specification, etc., for in-house design and construction, in-house design and bid construction, private design and bid construction services. 4. 5% Planning and Estimating: In the development and scope of work, meeting with user departments, assisting FMD Cost Estimating Department as needed/requested. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required with major course work in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, structural engineering, AND/OR experience required in professional engineering work with emphasis on architectural planning and designing, including some supervisory work; OR any equivalent combination of training and experience. Preferred Qualifications: Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Georgia or from a state having reciprocity with the State of Georgia or the ability to obtain the Georgia PE license within two years of employment. Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification required: Graduate from an accredited college or university with major course work in mechanical engineering or electrical engineering and 2-4 years of experience in professional engineering work with emphasis on mechanical planning and designing, including supervisory work. Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Georgia or be registered in a state having reciprocity with the State of Georgia (If not already a registered PE, the individual must obtain GA PE license within 12 months of hire) Valid driver's license Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies required to successfully perform work: In-depth knowledge of the modern principles and practices of engineering Considerable knowledge of, and experience in, modern building alteration and construction methods and materials and the preparation of estimates and specifications. Ability to plan and supervise the work of technical and professional subordinates Ability to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing. Physical Demands: Must be able to walk, stand, stoop, bend, and climb stairs. Must be able to sit and work at a computer for up to 8 hours daily. Work Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Some night and weekend work may be required to meet departmental demands or emergencies.
