Mary Minner-Kelsch Memorial Scholarship Application
2013-2014
This scholarship honors the memory of Mary Minner-Kelsch. The purpose of this
scholarship is to support the university’s commitment to a diverse student population.
The scholarship will be given to a transfer student. Preference will be given to women
applicants having a learning disability who display financial need.
Mary Minner-Kelsch was born on September 30, 1921 in a small Pennsylvania Dutch
town. At a time when most young people finished their education in 8th grade, she
graduated from Villa Maria Academy and was offered the opportunity to continue on to
college. Mary chose to help her family and married at 23 and in 20 years gave birth to 12
children. Even though her formal education stopped at 18, she continued learning
throughout her lifetime. Helping others was a code Mary lived her life by.
Eligibility: Students must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at
the University of Oregon. Preference will be given to women who have transferred to the
University of Oregon from a post-secondary institution and who are registered with the
Accessible Education Center. Selection of the recipient will be based on financial need.
The scholarship award for 2013-2014 will be $1,000.
Deadline: 5:00pm on Friday June 14, 2013.
