KWES TV NewsWest 9, in Midland, TX, is seeking a Chief Meteorologist to join our
weather team. The Stormtracker 9 Weather team has a tradition of being the severe weather
leader in this market. The successful candidate will share our commitment to cover severe
weather and be willing to work a variable work schedule. The Chief Meteorologist prepares and
presents weather forecasts for newscasts, supervises and oversees the meteorology staff, and
sets the direction for the station's weather department.

Experience:
The candidate should have knowledge of atmospheric sciences to analyze, read and interpret
weather conditions and events. Shoots, writes, and edits weather stories; prepares and delivers
accurate weather forecasts, and notifies viewers of severe weather information in a timely and
calm manner. Track storms using Weather Central's: Live and 3D: Storm Tracker and ESP
Radar. Uses news in motion and other graphics and equipment in daily forecasts and weather
maps. Notifies co-workers and managers about impending and on-going weather events that
warrant extended news coverage. Makes public appearances as required and represents the
station in the community. Supervises and trains the station's weather staff; oversees weather
forecasts prepared by other weather and co-workers.
Requirements:
Able to work flexible hours and/or extended hours during severe weather events. Prior
knowledge of Weather Central/WSI products and proficiency in principles of atmospheric
science. Bachelor's Degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or related field from fouryear college. At least 2-5 full years of On-Air Television Meteorologist experience. AMS
and/or NWA Seal or eligibility for certification. Ability to handle intense deadline pressure and
work in crisis situations. Must have a valid driver's license and maintain a good driving record
acceptable to company's insurance.
