Weekly Literacy Schedule
The entire literacy block is 130 minutes (2 hours and 10 minutes). The first 3 weeks of each
unit will include Phonics/Morphology instruction. The last 4-5 weeks of each unit will
substitute writing for the phonics/morphology block.

Note: Social Studies will be infused into the entire literacy block. If a teacher does not need
to do a true Social Studies lesson, they can substitute the Social Studies lesson with an
additional literacy instruction in close reading, writing, or phonics/morphology.
Note: Close reading instruction also includes writing to the text as well as vocabulary
instruction with new vocabulary words from the complex text.
