Subject Pronouns
A. The subject of a sentence is who or what is doing the action. A subject is
always a noun (a person, place, thing or idea).
Example: The students are studying grammar.
Who is doing the action is the example above? Students. “Students” is the
subject of that sentence.
B. Subject pronouns can replace subjects that are nouns in sentences. Pronouns
are words that replace nouns.

C. When replacing nouns that are subjects you have to consider if they are
singular or plural and if it is the 1st, 2nd or 3rd person.
For example, in the sentence “The students are studying grammar,” we said that
“students” is the subject. Is the word “students” singular or plural? It is plural as
“students” has an “s” on the end, which means there is more than one student.
So when you replace students with a pronoun, you have to look at the plural side
of the chart. “Students” would be replaced with “they.” The sentence would
become “They are studying grammar.” “They” is the 3rd person plural.
