Performing Sign-in in Recovery Room with Surgeon, Anesthetist and Anesthesia
Technician to verify patient
Observing five rights before administrating the drug
Keeping side rails up and locked while keeping the patient on bed or trolley
Observing proper Hands-off of patient from ward to Recovery, Pre Operatively and
recovery to ward Post Operatively

healing.
 Identify possible infection and administer antibiotics if complications arise.
 Provide Blood Transfusion correctly as per Physician order
 Identify for signs of pneumonia or easily transmitted ailments, such as staph infections.
 Assess the patient’s vital signs, including heart rate, pulse, respiration and temperature.
 Monitor the patient’s IV line, urinary catheter, wound drain etc
Symptom Management:





Many patients experience pain, nausea or other symptoms as a result of surgery.
Watch for signs of these side effects and administer pain or anti-nausea medication to control
the symptoms so patients can heal.
If a patient does not respond to the medication, adjust the dose or switch to a stronger drug as
per Anesthetist decision.
Patients often feel cold following a surgery, Provide additional blankets on them to keep them
comfortable.
Give complete hands-off to the ward nurse while transferring patient from PACU to ward.
