PROCEDURE FOR AWARDING GRADUATE DEGREES AND HOODING PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!
(Opera Institute certificates, Performance Diplomas and Artisan Certificates will be awarded in same manner,
but without hooding.)
a. A faculty marshal will announce the awarding of the graduate degrees in music. All graduate music degree
candidates should stand when your degree program is announced.
b. You will be directed to the stage by a faculty marshal. Before your name is called, you will be hooded by a
member of the faculty.
c. Give the CFA staff member (Alyssa Baker) on stage your name card. A faculty marshal will announce your
name and degree program to the audience.
d. After your name and degree is announced, walk towards Dean Juárez, who will hand you your diploma and
shake your hand. Take the diploma folder with your left hand so your right hand is free to shake hands with
the Dean; a professional photographer will take your picture. You will shake hands with your school’s director.
e. After you receive your diploma folder, continue across the stage and down the stairs to return to your seat,
guided by faculty marshals. You may not be sitting in the same seat.
f. The same procedure is followed for all graduate degree recipients.
g. The order of the degrees is School of Music (Doctor of Musical Arts, Master of Music, Diplomas and
Certificates), School of Visual Arts (MFA) and (MA), School of Theatre (MFA) and Artisan Certificate. Bachelors’
degrees will be awarded after the completion of the graduate degrees.

10. Please note: Master of Music (MM), Master of Fine Arts (MFA) and Master of Arts (MA) degree recipients must proceed
out with their class and then directly to the check-in area (same area that you received your card in) of the Track and
Tennis Center. CFA staff will hand you your actual diploma which you can put in your diploma folder. (DMA degree
recipients will have received their diploma on the stage). This will be a very quick process which you should do before
meeting your family to make sure you have your diploma. Diplomas will be distributed for the first 30 minutes after the
ceremony.
