Summary of the 12/04/2014 meeting at MSU-B Billings MT
CES Executive Committee: A meeting is planned in January for the executive committee as defined in the
Cumulative Effects Study cost share agreement. The meeting will include the Corps of Engineers and is aimed
at reinforcing the partnership between the Corps and the Council, final report and conference timeline,
reviewing match, discuss ongoing TAC operations and the synthesis of the final product.
MACD Meet & Greet: The Council agreed to participate in the MACD Legislative Meet & Greet planned for
Thursday, January 22, 2015 at the Montana Club in Helena. Printed invitations will be sent out to legislators
and followed-up with an email reminder. Nicole will track attendance by offering a donated door prize to
legislators who visit the YRCDC booth and sign-up.
State Water Plan: Jim Robinson, DNRC, provided his final update to the Council as he is retiring from state
service at the end of the calendar year. The State Water Plan has gone to the printers. The Yellowstone River
Basin recommendations are being edited. Robinson suggested that the Council consider sponsoring a water
availability study for the Yellowstone River basin.
TAC Update: Warren Kellogg updated the Council on the status of the study. He stressed that it was
important that the local districts provide input on best management practices (BMPs). Council members are
to ask their district supervisors what managements practices are important for their areas.
What’s Next? This committee strongly urges the District to become involved in the discussion of what they
want to happen to the Council when the CES is over. Attached are a list of pros and cons for keeping the
Council going. Please review this at your district meeting.
Summer Tour: A summer tour is tentatively planned for Custer County in July 2015.
****Next Meeting: The next meeting will be scheduled for January 29 or 30, 2015, most likely in Billings.
