2013-2014 Oasis Co-Op Winter CSA Application Form
Oasis at Bird-in-Hand provides the CSA to Smucker Farms customers directly from Lancaster
County. Oasis is a collective of Lancaster County farmers using chemical free and certifiedorganic growing techniques. Oasis farmers build the nutrient content of their soil with organic
methods in order to grow healthy plants and food without the use of chemicals. We are
concerned about the health of our land, families and community, and are committed to growing
and sharing freshly harvested, nutrient-rich food essential to a healthier lifestyle.
What’s in the Box?
A wide variety of fresh greenhouse and root vegetables that will include spinach, arugula, bok
choi, beets, kale, mustard greens, romaine, cauliflower, leeks, sweet potatoes, squash, mixed
baby greens, heads of lettuce, and potatoes in ½ bushel box. A combination of eggs, cheese, and
butter will also be included in many of the week’s boxes. We are including these items to make
sure that there will always be sufficient value in the boxes, especially when the weather is so
cold that the greenhouses are not able to produce as much fresh produce.
Cost: $31/week over 25 weeks (November 2013 – April, 2014) for a total of $775. This
reflects the added value of the eggs, butter, and cheese that will be included in many of the
weeks’ shares.
Smucker Farms CSA Wine Club Add-On: ____ Two Bottles of Wine each week with your
pick-up curated by the SFDC staff. One Red and one White for $25/week inclusive of DC sales
tax. Save 15-25% off retail as a bonus with your CSA pick-up. Total cost for season is $625.
We will hold bottles for the entire week if you cannot pick it up during the CSA Pick-up
window.
Payment and Application: Payment can be dropped off with application at Smucker Farms of
Lancaster County, or mailed to Smucker Farms at 2118 14th St. NW Washington, DC 20009.
Payment is required in full to complete the application and secure the share.

register when dropping off. **A surcharge of $15 is added on to credit cards**
Pick-up: Pick up your shares on your chosen day of Tuesday or Friday each week at Smucker
Farms of Lancaster County at 2118 14th Street NW Washington, DC. The shares will typically
be dropped off around 8.30-9AM on the delivery day and you will have through NOON the
following day to pick up your shares. You will receive an email sometime on the morning of the
pick-up day alerting you to the arrival of the share and a listing of the contents and what we
recommend for preparations of that week’s share. We will also be sending out an alert via
Twitter from @smuckerfarmsdc alongside what we will be sampling that evening.
Any shares left after that will be given to Martha’s Table. We do highly recommend picking up
on the delivery day as we cannot provide enough refrigeration for all the shares. If the

shareholders themselves cannot pick-up the box we encourage you to get friends, family, or
neighbors to pick it up in your stead.
Please choose ONE day for your pick-up. That will be your pick-up day throughout the season.
We will not be able to adjust pick-up days week to week.

CSA Shareholder Agreement
Please sign the following shareholder agreement, keep a copy for yourself and return one to
Smucker Farms of Lancaster Co. with your CSA application form:
I, ____________________________________, agree to share the risks and bounties, failures
and delights, of the Oasis at Bird-in-Hand farmers during the 2013-2014 Winter CSA season. I
understand that I am making a seasonal commitment to support small-scale, family farmers. I
expect the farmers and staff of Oasis at Bird-in-Hand and Smucker Farms of Lancaster Co. to
ensure the quality of the produce in my CSA share to the best of their abilities. I understand that
I have 4 weeks from the beginning of the season to cancel my share and receive a pro-rated
refund commensurate with the number of weeks (up to 4) that we used the CSA.
I will take responsibility for retrieving my share from Smucker Farms of Lancaster Co. at 2118
14th St. NW Washington, DC 20009 during weekly scheduled pick-up times. I understand that if
I miss my scheduled pick-up time and do not pick it up by noon of the following day my share
will be donated to others.
I have read and agree to all of the above terms. I understand that crops can be damaged and
destroyed by insects, weather and human error and I will not hold Oasis at Bird-in-Hand or
Smucker Farms of Lancaster Co. liable for any crop failures.
