MANCHESTER >> Bennington Area Habitat for Humanity is in the process of acquiring 51
Memorial Ave. and plans to convert the building into a location for its Shires ReSale store,
currently located on Routes 11 & 30 in the former Skier's Edge building.
The organization, which constructs homes for those who qualify for its assistance, is hoping to
be open for business at the new location by early June, according to Richard Malley, the
executive director of the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity.
Malley anticipates that the new location, closer to downtown Manchester, will be an asset for the
organization and the communities they serve, he said.
"We are excited about having the building," Malley said. "The first year at the [former] Skier's
Edge was a wonderful success. The store is playing a critical role this year in helping us secure
funds to buy supplies of lumber for building homes."
Habitat will be retrofitting the new space and moving the ReSale store's inventory during the last
week in May, he said. The Shires ReSale store sells gently used furniture, building supplies,
appliances, tools, housewares, and home improvement products to the general public.
Meanwhile, The Manchester Journal, which has occupied the space since the mid-1950s, will
move its staff's home base to space available at the First Congregational Church in Manchester
Village on 3624 Main St. next week. The Journal's business office and support functions will
continue to be handled out of the Bennington Banner's office in Bennington.
In addition, Evan's Office Supplies, which also has occupied half the building since 1998, is
moving to 4977 Main St. Evan's Office Supplies will be taking over the space formerly occupied
by Curves, the women's exercise and fitness center, in the nearby Green Mountain Shops Plaza.
The 51 Memorial Ave. real estate transaction is expected to close on Monday, May 18, between
Bennington Area Habitat for Humanity and the real estate holding firm for New England
Newspapers Inc., the Journal's parent company. A purchase price has not been disclosed.
The Journal has unused office desks available. Those are available for pick-up in person on a
first-come, first-served bases at 51 Memorial Ave.
The Journal's customers will continue to call 802-362-2222 to reach the operator during weekday
business hours. The news email address — news@manchesterjournal.com — remains the
preferred method to send press releases and letters to the editor. Mailed letters should be sent to
the Manchester Journal, 425 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.

to register. To continue receiving delivery of the Journal in its coverage area,
