Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline
A major change to education in the Kindergarten to Year 10 environment is aimed at
providing more clarity around teaching and learning.
The School Curriculum and Standards Authority has unveiled the Western Australian
Curriculum and Assessment Outline, which replaces the Curriculum Framework.
Western Australian schools now have had a mandated curriculum and a common set of
achievement standards. It’s a curriculum that describes what students should be taught at
each year level and the standards that they are expected to achieve.
The Outline builds on the important work of the Curriculum Framework and:

is for Kindergarten to Year 10 students

includes the Australian Curriculum content

clearly defines what students are working towards and how teachers can help them
through effective teaching and assessment practice

contains a statement about what is expected in the early years to ensure children
have the best possible start to their schooling

includes achievement standards for all year levels in the Australian Curriculum
subjects

sets out how schools must report to parents from Pre-primary to Year 10

includes frequently asked questions and links to useful websites and resources.
The Outline is available online on the Authority’s website at www.scsa.wa.edu.au and at
http://k10outline.scsa.wa.edu.au/.
