TEFL Classroom Assistants (voluntary)
Classroom Assistant – Teaching English as a Foreign Language
Meet international students, enhance your intercultural communication skills, improve your own
English language knowledge, and gain classroom experience in an EFL environment, by volunteering
as a Classroom Assistant on the University’s English Language Support Programme. Ideal for native
English speakers, or those with an IELTS 8.0+, interested in teaching, language, and other cultures,
and particularly to prospective TEFLers. You will receive initial and ongoing training, and commit to
a total of 17-20 hours engagement. There is a formal application process for this role.

Demonstrator (e.g. of a language item or activity)

Assisting general group work
Tech facilitator
Student commitment:
 A minimum of 10.5hrs and a maximum of 13.5 hrs classroom experience
 1 initial meeting (30 minute approx) with teacher
 7 out of 9 sessions for one ELS course
 Reflective journal (5 entries)
 Approximate number of hours, including a reflective journal: 17-20 hours
