Required Materials Everyday:
1) Sturdy
binder for portfolio that will firmly hold a large amount of paper. The binder
will be divided into four sections: (1) homework; (2) tests & quizzes; (3) Labs; (4) notes
2) Textbook, loose-leaf paper, and a pencil each day.
3) Students should bring completed homework when assigned.
Grading Policy
Students will be assessed based on their results on all assessments, such as projects,
quizzes, and tests, as well their lab work and lab report.
Tests: (40% of the Marking Period Grade)
Each test is worth 25-50 points on the average.
There is a minimum of three tests for each marking period.
Quizzes: (20% of the Marking Period Grade)
Each quiz is worth 10-20 points.
Homework(HW): (15% of the Marking Period Grade)
Homework assignment is worth 5 points on the average.
Each week, four homework will be assigned.
Class Participation (CP): (10% of the Marking Period Grade)
Each week of a marking period, I will be giving a grade for class participation worth 25
points (5 points per day).
Each week, binders are randomly inspected. Complete and neat binders are worth 10
points.
Labs (15% of the Marking Period Grade)
Students will be conducting biology lab approximately every other week for a total of
about four lab per quarter. Written lab work will be due at specified times by the
instructor and will be graded based on a score 25 points. As a result, the laboratory work
during a quarter wil have a weight approximately equal to 100-point test.
Marking Period Grade = Tests (40%)+Quizzes(20%)+HW(15%)+CP(10%)+
labs(15%)=Total grade

CLASS GUIDELINES AND POLICY
•
Students are expected to be on time, well behaved, and prepared for class
when the period begins. One point deduction in class participation grade if you come in late. A
student should be courteous and raise his/her hand if he/she wishes to speak. Talking out of turn,
disrespectful or rude behavior will NOT be tolerated.
•
Students who score below 70% on a test must take the test home, have it signed
by a parent, and returned to me the following day. The score can be raised up to 70% by working
out the problems correctly with all shown work and explanations on a separate paper turned in
with the original test no later than two class meetings after the test is returned. This option for
increasing the grade up to 70% will be available for a maximum 4 tests for the whole year.
•
Students with an excused absence will have one class day for each day absent
to make up missed assignments. After that time limit, the late policy starts.
•
Students with an unexcused absence will receive a “0” for any missed
assignment, quiz, or test.
•
If a student is absent on the day of a test, they must take it on the day they
return. If you anticipate being absent on the day of a test, I strongly recommend that you take it
before your absence. It is the student’s responsibility to seek out the teacher or fellow
classmates in order to determine what material was missed so that they can make up any
assignments and/or tests.
•
Do all of your work with integrity. Cheating is unacceptable and will result in a
zero mark for that particular activity. Talking and glancing at seatmates’ paper during tests &
quizzes will be considered cheating, therefore will also result to a zero mark.
•
Late assignments will be accepted with two points subtracted from the total worth
for each day late. A 5 point assignment will be worth zero points after 3 days late.
•
SOME IMPORTANT SCHOOL POLICY
1. No Cell phones and other electronic devices must be seen and heard in the building.
2. School uniform policy must be followed at all times in school premises.
