Changes After 3-9-09 in RED
3.1 Super Stocks for 2009 season.
3.1.1 GENERAL RULES FOUND IN SECTION ONE OF THE MAGIC VALLEY SPEEDWAY RULEBOOK MUST BE MET TO
COMPETE IN ANY CLASS AT MAGIC VALLEY SPEEDWAY UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.
3.2 COMPETING MODELS3.2.1 1960 or newer, North American made cars. No two-seat sports cars, front wheel drive, station wagons, four wheel drive, pickup
trucks, convertibles or jeeps allowed.
3.2.2 Minimum wheelbase for cars must be 107.5"
3.3 SAFETY EQUIPMENT
3.3.1 Helmets are required and must be Snell SA2005 or higher. Helmets must be worn at all times while on the track surface. Helmet
must accompany vehicle at time of inspection. Fire suits, fire resistant gloves, fire resistant shoes and neck braces required. Fire
resistant underwear recommended.
3.3.2 Five point safety belts required. No factory type shoulder belts or straps allowed. Metal to metal buckles are required on shoulder
and seat belts. Seat belts must be mounted securely to the roll cage. Seat belts and shoulder harness must not be more than 3 years
old. Head an Neck restraint recommended. Neck brace required.
3.3.3 Fire extinguisher must be securely attached and within easy reach of driver.
3.3.4 Rib type window net (minimum 16” X 20” ) on driver’s window is required.
3.3.5 Aluminum racing seats required. No fiberglass seats allowed. Seat must be mounted inside the frame rails and in front of rear
tires. Seat must be mounted to the roll cage.
3.4 GENERAL BODY REQUIREMENTS
3.4.1 Body may be magnetic steel, or aftermarket. Original dimensions of all bodies must remain as manufactured, except for changes
that may be necessary for tire clearance. Any car not appearing stock will not be allowed to compete.
3.4.2 All cars must have complete bodies, hoods, fenders, and bumpers and must be in good condition. Driver must be well shielded
from tires and driveline. No wedge, downforce or aero type bodies allowed. Must be neat and stock appearing. MVS officials have final
approval.
3.5 CAR WEIGHT
3.5.1 All weights will be with driver, in driving position.
3.5.2 Weight is 3200 pounds at Pre race Tech. With 55% maximum left side anytime.
3.5.3All added weight must be securely bolted in place with a minimum ½-inch diameter, or enclosed in a tube. No aluminum brackets.
3.5.4 Officials may change weight requirements if deemed necessary to improve competition. Speedway scales are only official weight.
3.7 SPOILERS
3.7.1 All spoilers must be a solid non-adjustable part of the body that controls the flow of air over one surface only.
3.7.2 One Rear spoiler mounted at the rear of the trunk meeting the following requirements. Spoiler must be no more than 6” high and
not extend beyond the width of the widest part of the quarter panels, Unless OEM. Wings will not be permitted.
3.8 WINDSHIELD
3.8.1 Lexan must be used in lieu of standard windshield glass. A minimum of three straps 1/8 inch x 1 inch must be installed inside the
windshield. lexan must be riveted all around. Straps must be installed in a manner that will not obstruct the vision of the driver.
3.9 REAR WINDOW
3.9.1 Rear windows and side window lexan OK.
3.10 SIDE WINDOW GLASS
3.10.1 All door window glass must be removed. If A Post panels are used max 6” at bottom 90 degree straight up. Must be flat.
3.11 HEADLIGHT/PARKING LIGHTS
3.11.1 Headlight and parking light lenses must be removed and holes must be covered.
3.13 DASHBOARD
3.13.1 Dash must be designed and installed not to block driver’s vision.
3.14 FIREWALL
3.14.1 Engine firewall may be modified for engine and exhaust clearance, approved by track officals.
3.14.2 Firewall must be stock steel or relaced with minimum 22-gauge steel.
3.14.3 Rear firewall must completely protect driver from fuel cell and rear tires with minimum 22-gauge steel.
3.15 DOORS
3.15.1 Doors must be attached to prevent opening.
3.15.2 Nerf Bars if run must be on inside of door skin.
3.16 FENDERS AND QUARTER PANELS
3.16.1 When cutting fenders or quarter panels for tire clearance the original tire openings must be followed. Fender flares allowed must
be neat and not excessive approved by MVS.
3.17 HOODS
3.17.1 All hoods must be flat . No hood scoops allowed. Only fresh air to carb is through cowl opening ( 2.5" x 20" Max
)
3.18 REAR DECK LIDS/TRUNKS
3.18.1 Rear deck lid must be attached with pins and or hinges so it may be opened.
3.18.2 Fuel cell must be opened to the ground with no floor under fuel container.
3.18.3 Rear bumper cover filler panel must be solid. No screen or mesh or holes.
3.19 BUMPERS
3.19.1 All cars must run a bumper attached to the fenders to prevent hooking. Bumper may be reinforced with a maximum of 1 ( 1 ¾)
inch tube behind bumper. Reinforcement may not be exposed. Bumper must remain in standard location for make of car in reference to
height and distance from body panels.
3.20 GENERAL ENGINE REQUIREMENTS
3.20. All cars must run 602 unaltered except distributer may be replaced with any HEI with coil in cap.
3.21 DETAILED ENGINE REQUIREMENTS
3.21.1 All engines must be located so the center of the forward most spark plug hole is up to 2" rearward of the center line of the front
upper ball joints. Center of crankshaft must be centerline of the inside front clip.
3.21.2 Engine ground clearance will be measured from center of crankshaft at pulley mounting. A minimum of 11 inches from center of
crankshaft to ground must be maintained at Pre race tech without driver.
3.21.3 All engine mounts must be reinforced. Mounts must be securely bolted.
3.21.4 All cars will be allowed an approved sealed crate motor part number is 88958602, GM part number 88958602 will be the only
approved crate engine for competition at Magic Valley Speedway in this class. Engine must remain sealed at all times. Any engine
altered or modified in anyway without prior written approval, of Chief Steward, will result in permanent suspension of that driver from all
weekly racing series divisions at Magic Valley Speedway for no less than one calendar year and a fine. This includes but not limited to
seal bolts, valve springs, rocker arms, shimming altering or relocating any part from its original configuration. The only approved
alteration is the water pump, and Distributer.
3.21.5 Penalties Any competitor that is determined by the Chief Steward or MVS to have tampered with the factory seal on their crate
engine will be fined $3000.00 + all purse monies earned for that season. The competitor will lose all season points and be suspended
for the remainder of that season and the following season. All suspensions must be served and all fines paid before the competitor can
compete at Magic Valley Speedway.
3.30 CARBURETOR
3.30.1 MVS officials must approve carburetor.
3.30.2 All cars must run a Holley 2300 two barrel carburetor model number 4412 and subject to a restrictor plate.
3.30.3 One spacer may be installed between carburetor and intake manifold. Must be moroso part # 64966
3.31 BODY OF CARBURETOR
3.31.1 No polishing, grinding, or drilling of holes permitted. The choke may be removed, but all screw holes must be permanently
sealed. The choke horn must not be removed or altered.
3.31.2 Boosters may not be changed. Size or shape must not be altered. Height must remain standard.
3.31.3 Venturi area may not be altered in any manner. Casting ring must not be removed.
3.31.4 Base plate must not be altered in shape or design. Stock butterflies must not be thinned or tapered. Idle holes may be drilled in
butterflies. Screw ends may be cut even with shafts, but screw heads must remain standard.
3.31.5 Throttle shafts must remain standard and must not be thinned or cut in any way.
3.31.6 Any attempt to pull outside air other than down through the venturi is not permitted. Alterations to allow additional air to be
picked up below the opening of the venturi such as altered gaskets, base plates, and drilling holes into the carburetor will not be
permitted.
3.31.7 Carburetor jets must be the same type as furnished by the carburetor manufacturer. No automatic jet systems.
3.31.8 Magic Valley Speedway may require restrictor plate. Plate must be obtained from Speedway officials by purchasing from the
Speedway. Magic Valley Speedway will purchase any unaltered plate from any owner at end of season for original price. Absolutely no
tampering with restrictor plate allowed. No additional devices allowed directing airflow in any manner.
3.31.9 All cars are subject to a restrictor plate.
Any restrictor plate that has been tampered with or is missing from the car will result in a fine of $500.00 and loss of all points earned
that night. In the event that the plate is found to be tampered with before the racing begins the driver will be required to pay a $500.00
fine and the car and driver will not be allowed to compete that night. For the second offence the driver will be suspended for the
remainder of the season and will lose all points earned for the season. Magic Valley Speedway reserves the right to change the size of
the restrictor plate at any time without notice.
3.31.10 One gasoline filter may be used. Fuel injection or superchargers not allowed.
3.31.11 Magic Valley Speedway reserves the right to exchange carburetors among competitors at the completion of any sanctioned
main event. No changes before exchange.
3.32 AIR CLEANER AND FILTER
3.32.1 Air cleaners may not be removed during practice or competition.
3.32.2 All air shall be filtered through element. It will be permissible to shield the front area of the air cleaner up to a maximum of onehalf of the air cleaner circumference and not wider than the height of the air cleaner filter. No spacers, other than normal gasket, are
permitted between the carburetor and the air cleaner. The air cleaner must seal on the carburetor. Only a maximum of one-inch lip
permitted from the air cleaner element to the edge of the top or bottom of the air cleaner. K & N and top flows OK.
3.32.3 No tubes, funnels, or any device that may control the flow of air is permitted inside of the air cleaner or between the air cleaner
and carburetor. Absolutely no ducts or baffles permitted on or leading to the air cleaner or element.
3.33 ELECTRICAL
3.33.1 Only battery powered, camshaft driven, distributor type ignition allowed. No magnetos, crank trigger systems or MSD ignitions
allowed. Any brand of spark plugs may be used. Alternator may be used, but not required.
3.33.2 All cars must be self-starting. Starters may be after market or OEM. Starter must mount in the stock location. After race is
underway, cars may be started by hand pushing in pit area only, but under no circumstances is any car to be pushed or towed onto the
racetrack.
3.33.3 12V battery must be located on floor of car. The battery must be completely encased, well secured and must be protected to
stop shorting. No battery may be located forward of the front spindle or rear of the rear-end housing. Alternate battery location is
subject to MVS official’s approval.
3.34 ACCESSORIES
3.34.1 No on-board computers, automated electronics, record keeping devices except tachometers. , No digital readout gauges
allowed. Transponders will be required and must be approved by Magic Valley Speedway officials. Transponder must be mounted on
the right rear frame rail 168” from the front trailing edge of the front bumper.
3.34.2 No radio equipment other than race-safe or Raciever radio allowed on any car or truck. “Raciever” radio will be required in all
cars. Cars will not be allowed to compete if the Raciever is not functioning.
3.35 ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM
3.35.1 Water pump impellers may be altered. Only v-type or serpentine belts and pulleys are permitted.
3.35.2 Fans must be standard steel or reinforced plastic. Electric fans allowed. Must be on engine side of radiator. A fan guard must be
installed. The fan shroud cannot extend more than 1 inch behind the fan blades, and must cover 100% of the fan.
3.35.3 Interchangeable radiator cores are allowed. Radiator dust screens permitted. Any brand or make of radiator hose or clamps
allowed. All cars must carry catch or overflow tank, securely mounted as a permanent installation. Use of factory installed catch cans
approved. Catch or overflow tank must be under hood.
3.35.4 A panel the width of the radiator may be attached from the front bumper to the trailing edge of the radiator.
3.36 ENGINE LUBRICATION
3.36.1 Any oil is permissible. Oil pressure may be regulated at the discretion of the owner or driver.
3.36.2 Oil filters and breather caps may be used. Oversized oil pans allowed. No dry sump systems allowed. No oil coolers.
3.36.3 Oil must be added from the engine compartment only. No external oil pumps are permitted.
3.37 ENGINE EXHAUST SYSTEM
3.37.1 Stock cast iron manifolds or headers allowed. Must be approved by chief steward.
3.37.2 Only headers allowed 151CM, 151ECM, 151ELCM. No cones or pyramids allowed.
3.37.3 Manifold or header spacers are not permitted.
3.37.4 Only one gasket, maximum .075-inch thickness, may be used between the cylinder head and exhaust manifold or header.
Manifold or header must bolt to head .No thermal wraps or coatings are permitted on entire exhaust system. Exhaust must drop down
and cannot go over top of bell housing or transmission.
3.37.5 Exhaust pipes from header to the muffler (or 2 into 1 collector) shall be no larger than three (3") inches in diameter. Out side
diameter. The exhaust pipe exiting the muffler (or 2 into 1 collector) shall be no larger than three (3") inches. OD Two-into-one merge
collectors are allowed.
3.37.6 Exhaust pipes must be securely fastened to manifold or headers and securely attached to frame in a minimum of two (2) bolts.
3.37.7 Mufflers that do not let sound level exceed 98 dB at 75 feet are required. All exhaust must pass through the mufflers. All cars
must meet the DB rule before being allowed to compete. Exhaust system must remain under chassis design with no part of the system
above the floor pan. Exhaust must exit behind driver and in front of the rear axle. Exhaust must not drag no height rule. If exhaust drags
the race track during the race you will be black flagged, at officials discreation.
3.38 DRIVE TRAIN
3.38.1 Stock clutch or 2 disc 7 1/4" Must be steel disc assembly. Only steel flywheels permitted. Must be stock diameter flywheel. Ring
gear must remain same size as a standard production ring gear for engines being used. No Automatics.
3.38.2 Bell housing must be scatter-proof design or device to protect driver installed to prevent injury in case of clutch failure.
Transmission must be stock OEM Only standard transmissions allowed.
3.38.3 ( 2 forward an 1 reverse working gears minimum required) Must be located in stock location. Must be cast iron.
3.38.4 Drive shaft and universals must be steel and must be stock design and diameter. It is mandatory that two 360 degree steel
brackets, no less than 2 inches wide and ¼ inch thick, be placed around the drive shaft and fastened to the floor or cross member of
the car to prevent drive shaft from becoming dislodged and dropping to race track. All drive shafts must be 2” OD min & made of steel
and painted white. No cambered rear axle housings are permitted. Floater rearends recommended.
3.38.6 Locked differentials allowed. Must be locked by welding, steel mini-spool, or full steel spool. Limited slip, posi-track, gold trac,
Detroit lockers etc. not allowed. No polishing or lightening of ring, pinion or spool. No adjustable traction control devices allowed.
Interchanging of rears allowed between manufacturers. Only steel axle housings permitted. No gun drilled axles.
3.38.8 All cars must have soft touch rev control (Part # 8728) purchased from Magic Valley Speedway. Mounting instructions will be
furnished with rev control. Tech inspectors will insert a rev control chip each event- 6200 RPM limit. Soft touch rev control violations will
result in a $1000 fine, loss of points and purse for the night, and possible suspension (decided by management)
3.39 WHEELS and TIRES
3.39.1 All cars will compete on an unaltered conventional 8” steel wheel weighing minimum 19 lbs. Only 2”,3”, 4” and 5" backspacing.
Wheel spacers may be used. No softening, conditioning, siping or grooving of tires allowed. Minimum durometer reading may be
enforced at any time. Only 1 valve stem allowed per wheel. No aluminum, plastic, or carbon fiber wheels allowed. No wide-five
adapters, no wheel weights or bleeder valves allowed. Wheel studs must be ½ inch minimum with 1-inch minimum lug nuts. One lug
stud thread must be seen.
3.39.2 Tire Usage Rule
3.39.3 All cars will run Hoosier 970 purchased from MVS dealer. Tire use rule 7 the 1st race date on schedule 1 each night after
that date. Must run 50% of main. If you start after 1st race you are allowed 6 to start. No tires banked last 2 races of the season.
All tires must be banked before 1st Super Stock Pratice on schedule that night.
3.40 FRAME REQUIREMENTS
3.40.1 No holes may be cut in frame rails to lighten. All frames are subject to MVS official’s approval. Any frame rejected by the MVS
officials for showing poor workmanship will not be approved until necessary changes have been made.
3.40.2 Rear clip may be reinforced, but stock configuration and location must be used. Chief Steward will adjust weight penalty if
necessary.
3.40.3 Cross member must be stock and in stock location.
3.41 SUSPENSION
3.41.1 Front-end suspensions may be reinforced. Either rear coil or leaf springs will be permitted.
3.41.2 No transverse coil spring mounts allowed. Springs may be cut, heated, or changed
3.41.3 Springs must remain in stock location and retain stock mounting location. No coil-over springs or shocks
3.41.4 Weight jacks are allowed front and rear not adjustable from drivers cockpit.
3.41.5 Sway bars must be one-piece steel; howe type adjusters may be used. No Heims. Left side must not be attached to A-Arm. No
rear sway bars.
3.41.6 Only one WB Pro or Afco FB Series non adjustable & non rebuildable shock per wheel
3.41.8 All shocks are subject to approval of the Magic Valley Speedway Tech Officials. Shock mounts may be changed.
3.41.9 Lower A-frames must be stock production type and mounted in stock location. Both A-frames must be the same lengths. (no
offset bushings or A-frames)
3.41.10 Upper A-frames may be stock or 1 piece, all steel arm an shaft (no slugs or bearings).No Heims. Aluminum spacers are allowed
to adjust caster & camber. Stock upper a-arms if used may not be altered.
3.41.11 Offset spindles are not permitted. Spindles may be changed but must be stock OEM type.
3.41.12 Any OEM Factory production type of ball joint may be used. Interchanging between manufacture lines will be permitted. No
adjustable type of ball joints will be permitted.
3.42 TREAD WIDTH REQUIREMENTS
3.42.2 Front and rear tread width shall be measured outside of tire rubber to outside of tire rubber max 77". The measurement will be
made with track referee at spindle height is 74" MVS referee is final. All cars with wheel base longer then 111.5" tread width is 78"max.
All cars shorter than 107.5" tread width is 76" Max.
3.43 WHEELBASE REQUIREMENTS
3.43.1 Minimum wheelbase allowed: 107.5 inches or more.
3.44 GROUND CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS
3.44.1Minimum ground clearance without driver is 4 inches. No part of the Chassis or Body shall be lower than minimum 4 inches (
suspension,exhaust and sway bar exempt ) when measured at pre-race inspection. All cars will be measured with a maximum of 20
pounds air pressure in the left side tires. Air may be removed at the pre-race inspection line but air may not be added to make ride
height. After a car has passed inspection air pressure may be removed, no other adjustments will be permitted.
3.45 WEIGHT SHIFTING DEVICES
3.45.1 No mechanical or hydraulic devices for shifting weight will be permitted.
3.46 STEERING COMPONENTS
3.46.1 Steering must be stock for model of car being used and in stock location. Steering box may not be moved No rack and pinion.
3.46.2 Quick release coupling on steering wheel is allowed. A Howe Drag-Link Pt # 0002-23399 may be used.
3.46.3 Steel heim instead of outer tie rods allowed for bump adjustment inner tie rod must be stock OEM. Any steel tie rod tube allowed.
3.47 BRAKES AND BRAKE COOLING
3.47.1 Brakes must be installed on all four wheels and must lock up all four wheels. Any attempt to restrict the flow of brake fluid to any
wheel will result in disqualification and/or suspension and fine to be determined by the speedway management.
3.47.2 No floating brake calipers permitted.
3.47.3 Only stock OEM calipers allowed.
3.47.4 No cooling of any part of the brake system allowed. One proportional valve allowed. Valve must be between the front and rear
brakes only. Steel hats on rear allowed for rear disc conversion.
3.48 FUEL
3.48.1 Gasoline shall not be blended with alcohol, ether, or other oxygenates and it shall not be blended with aniline or its derivatives,
nitro compounds or other nitrogen containing compounds.
3.48.2 No icing or cooling of fuel system,fuel tank,fuel or intake is permitted in garage, pit, or racing areas.
3.49 FUEL CELLS
3.49.1 The use of a commercially manufactured fuel cell is required. Maximum 22 gallons.
3.49.2 Technical inspectors will reject any fuel cells, containers, or check valves that appear to be damaged, defective, or do not function
properly. Fuel cell vent pipe check valves are allowed, any concealed pressure type containers, feed lines or actuating mechanism will
not be permitted. Fuel Cell must be full on foam. Only standard foam supplied by the cell manufacturer allowed in cell.
3.50 FUEL CELL CONTAINER
3.50.1 The use of a fuel cell container is mandatory.
3.50.2 The container must be no less than 20 guage steel.
3.51 FUEL CELL AND FUEL CELL INSTALLATION
3.51.1 Fuel cell and fuel cell container must be installed as far forward as possible in trunk area equal distance between frame rails. Fuel
cell and fuel cell container, installed in recessed well, must be secured with steel straps, no less than two lengthwise and two crosswise
360 degrees both directions. Straps must be made of 1 inch x 1 inch square tubing bolted flat to floor pan with no spacers. Two straps
must support fuel cell container, minimum of 1 inch square tubing secured to frame equal distance from each end. When mounting fuel
cell through a trunk floor an additional container of minimum 20-gauge steel must be welded solid to floor of trunk for installation of fuel
cell container. A 1-inch square tubing reinforcement frame must be welded to the floor pan form frame rail to frame rail. The bottom of the
fuel cell container must have a minimum ground clearance of 8 inches. Fire wall of steel not less than 20-gauge thickness must be
located between trunk area and driver.
3.51.2 A 1/8th inch steel plate must be installed at the front and rear of the fuel cell frame work. Plate must be mounted on the outside
and must extend from the top to bottom, and side to side of cell.
3.51.3 One, 1 inch maximum vent outside of body at left rear light. Check valve must be installed to prevent fuel from coming out. No
electrical devices are permitted in trunk compartment. Except transponders.
3.51.4 Only one fuel line permitted from fuel cell to fuel pump. All fuel lines are subject to MVS Officials approval. Fuel lines from cell to
carburetor may be relocated to prevent vapor lock, but must remain under floor of car unless otherwise approved. Line may be replaced
with neoprene hose not to exceed ½ inch I.D. No additional lines may be used on fuel system.
3.51.5 Only OEM type manual fuel pumps in stock location are permitted.
3.51.6 Electric fuel pumps are not permitted. Cooling of fuel system is not permitted.
3.52 ROLL BARS
3.52.1 Round steel tubing 1 ¾ inch x .090 seamless roll-over bars minimum are compulsory and must be approved by MVS Officials.
Aluminum and/or other soft metals not permitted. Roll bars must be welded. All cars are required to have a rear vertical hoop behind the
driver’s head and connected to left and right front roll bar legs by a roof hoop. The front roll bar legs must follow the contour of the
windshield post and cowl. Maximum distance from windshield to rear of roll bar can be no more than 4 inches. The rear vertical hoop
must be supported by a diagonal bar from top left to bottom right or top right to bottom left. A roll bar must connect the left and right of
the rear vertical hoop at seat height and across floor pan at bottom. An additional roll bar must be installed across the bottom of the
dashboard, extended from the left front roll bar leg to the right front roll bar leg. Rear support bars left and right must extend from the top
of the rear vertical hoop to the rear of the frame in the trunk compartment. A rear loop bar must be extended from rear support bars
across the rear panel with a minimum of three vertical bars at rear. Rear vertical hoop shall be no further back than 1-1/2 inches behind
striker plate opening at quarter panel unless approved by MVS officials. The front leg bars and rear vertical must be connected with four
horizontal door bars on both left and right side. The door bars must be convex in shape and spaced from top to bottom as equal as
space permits. Door bars must have six (6) vertical studs per side equally spaced. Two angular studs must be attached from next to the
bottom door bar to main frame rail. Front wedge bar, roof wedge bar, transmission hoop, and front hoop are required. Joints and
connections must have gusset plates for reinforcement.
3.52.2 Roll bars must be padded anywhere driver may come in to contact with the bars. Installation and must be professionally
constructed.
3.52.4 Steel door plates, 18 gauge or .049-inch thickness metal, must be securely welded to door bars on drivers side. Plate must cover
the area from the top door bar to the bottom door bar and from the rear down post to five inches in front of the seat. Must be visible for
inspection.
3.53 CLAIM RULE
3.53.1 Promoter may claim any engine at anytime during the event for $2000.00 dollars , no exchange.
3.53.2 Any driver, who refuses to sell, forfeits all cash, trophies, and points for the feature, and is suspended.
Magic Valley Speedway Tech Officials reserve the right to make final decisions in the interpretation of any rules or race procedures at
any time. No equipment will be considered as having been approved by reason of having passed through inspection. Magic Valley
Speedway Tech Officials recommend that you carefully study Rule Book in order to be familiar with all aspects of stockcar racing. If you
are considering a part, modification or procedure not covered in these rules contact the Magic Valley Speedway Chief Steward before
proceeding with any purchase or modification. If you have any questions regarding the rules set forth, contact the Magic Valley
