Academic Health Centers in the Era of Interprofessionalism:
Multifaceted Contributions of Psychology
Join us in Atlanta for the 7th national conference of the
Association of Psychologists in Academic Health Centers
February 5-7, 2015.
We have another star-studded program of national leaders in clinical service, training,
scholarship, and administration in academic health psychology! Esteemed APAHC member
and APA President Dr. Nadine Kaslow will open the conference with an address on
psychologists’ roles in patient centered medical homes. Other topics include integrated primary
care, creating sustainable business models and updates in pediatrics with talks by Drs.
Benjamin Miller and Lynne Sturm, Co-Chair of the APA Division 54 Task Force on Pediatric
Integrated Primary Care. Dr. Carol Webb from the ASPPB will inform us about licensure
implications for psychologists in telepyschology. In response to the growing pressures for
accountability in the multiple facets of our work, Dr. Gene D’Angelo, Past President of APPIC,
will present about educational value units (EVUs) and Dr. Lisa Kearney, Senior Consultant for
Technical Assistance at the VA Office of Mental Health Operations, on measuring clinical
outcomes. Our clinical focus this year will be anxiety and depression with a presentation on
psychoneuroimunological underpinnings by our psychiatry colleague, Dr. Andrew Miller. In
addition, clinical talks by Drs. Ed Craighead and Cynthia Ramirez will address the treatment of
child and adolescent mood disorders and non-suicidal self-injurious behavior. Dr. Arlene
Noriega, Past President of APA Division 44, will speak to how we as psychologists can help
address the healthcare needs of the LGBT community, and Dr. Terry Stancin, President-Elect of
the Association of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, will discuss psychologist’s roles in
interprofessional treatment of transgendered youth. There will b e an ethics talk by Dr. Don
Brunquell on addressing moral distress in healthcare professionals. Other highlights include
talks by longtime APAHC members Drs. Patrick Smith and Barry Hong on performance
leadership and keeping psychology viable and integral to academic health center missions. Be
sure to plan to stay an extra day in Atlanta if you want to explore because you will not want to
miss a minute of this line-up!
Other exciting activities include the Early Career Bootcamp, poster session, and an opening
reception. Representatives from the Commission on Accreditation will again be on hand to
provide site visitor training and a Self Study workshop. ABPP examiners will also be present for
those of you ready to complete your exam in Clinical Health Psychology.
