Background
UNICEF Bangladesh has a broad donor base and is required to produce a large number of reports annually to meet
donors’ various reporting requirements. In addition to regularly reporting to its donors, the Office prepares and
shares reports with the Lead Agencies, in the case of Joint Programmes with other UN agencies/partners.
UNICEF Bangladesh Country Office (BCO) puts great emphasis on timeliness and quality of donor reports and
funding proposals. BCO is committed to maintaining the highest quality standards and has invested in building a
robust system to enhance the report writing capacity of key programme staff and in areas needing further
improvement such as results-based reporting.
In addition, as the Section responsible for monitoring the situation of women and children in Bangladesh country
programme, SPPME produces situation analysis, reports on progress towards the MDGs, other analytical reports
based on MICS and other studies for advocacy and informed decision making to meet the needs of women and
children in Bangladesh.
Purpose of Assignment
Under the guidance of the Chief of Social Policy, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, UNICEF Bangladesh, the
incumbent will be responsible for reviewing and editing key documents produced by the office. This includes
editing all donor reports from the office. The incumbent will help build the capacity of project officers in BCO who
primarily draft reports to enhance skills in results-based reporting. The incumbent will also help to establish the
quality assurance mechanism and related processes to enhance the quality of reports and other publishable
documents commissioned by the Social Policy, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Section.
Key tasks/responsibilities







Editing and quality assurance of donor reports, research reports, studies, advocacy briefs and any other
important office documents as requested by the Chief, SPPME.
Editing and quality assurance of funding proposals as requested by Chief, SPPME.
As required by Chief, SPPME, write relevant sections of specific reports and funding proposals.
Develop plan and organize skills training on Results Based Reporting for concerned staff.
Arrange regular orientation sessions on different types of donor reports (Thematic Donor Reports -e.g. on
Education, Child Survival- Emergency, CERF reporting, project progress and final reports). These sessions will
include donor reporting conditions and visibility aspects.
Arrange periodic feedback and orientation sessions with programme Sections on their reports and proposals
submitted.
Work with PME Section to develop resource materials and guidelines on donor reporting, proposal writing and
research study writing.
Expected Deliverables

Review and edit all donor reports due each month to ensure highest quality standards
All reports are submitted to donors in a timely fashion
Conduct at least one refresher training in report and proposal writing for key staff
Resource Materials and other aids identified or developed and posted on local web site or other appropriate
platforms for open access by all office staff.

Regular meetings with the Chief of SPPME on work priorities and expectations
Close working relationship with Partnerships Officer in SPPME and relevant staff in all Programme Group and
Field Operations in CO to ensure smooth coordination with all those involved in the reporting process
Liaise with donors on reporting requirements and guidelines.
Qualifications and Competencies Required
Education
 Advanced university degree in Communication, Journalism, International Relations or a related technical field
 Sound knowledge and skills on results-based reporting
Work Experience
 Minimum five years of progressively responsible professional work experience in the UN or other
international development organization, national government, academic institution or the private sector.
 Knowledge of and/or experience working with major donors, the aid environment, donor policies and
familiarity with UNICEF programmes and approaches
 Experience in conducting trainings on donor reporting and proposal writing an asset.
Language
 Full command of the English language required.
 Knowledge of other UN languages is an asset

The temporary appointment is office-based at UNICEF BCO.
