Siemens Magnet Technology | Eynsham, Oxford
Siemens Magnet Technologies | Oxford | 12 Months
Siemens is a global company that employs over 400,000 people in nearly 190 countries worldwide. Siemens
Magnet Technology (SMT), based in Eynsham, Oxfordshire, is part of the Siemens Healthcare Division and is a
world leader in the design and manufacture of superconducting magnets for MRI body scanners. Annually, SMT
make over 1100 magnets, and a third of all MRI systems in the world contain a magnet made there. This
opportunity is for a 12-month placement in our Research and Development Department, where you will work on a
variety of magnet technology and product development projects.
What are my responsibilities?

Working as part of a team to support and develop the design and manufacture of control electronics and
software for superconducting magnets.

Working independently on projects to improve current designs and processes. Carrying out design work,
conducting experiments, analysing results and reporting on conclusions, both in written reports and
verbally in meetings.

Supporting production on the factory floor and the customer support team.
What do I need to qualify for this job?

You will be working towards a 2:1 (or above) in Electronic, Electrical, Control or Software Engineering
and be looking to complete a year in industry as part of your degree.

An interest in mixed signal microcontroller based electronics and software.
What else do I need to know?
SMT has a long history of taking students for placement years, and students are given stimulating and interesting
projects to work on that are genuinely valued. Being a placement student at SMT typically involves a mixture of
desk based office work and experimentation on the factory floor, with plenty of opportunity to contribute to the
direction and scope of your work. Employees have a real sense of pride in their work, and SMT’s success was
recently recognised with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise, and three best factory awards in 2012.
