Surbiton High School is part of the United Church Schools Trust, and we expect all employees to act in a manner which is consistent with the Trust’s principal objective: to provide education based on Christian principles. While we recognise that employees may come from other faith groups (as indeed do many of our pupils), we expect everyone in our community to conduct themselves appropriately in the light of this objective. As a School we, in turn, respect the different faiths of our colleagues and pupils, and welcome them and their contribution.

Eligibility for employment

In common with all employment in schools, posts at Surbiton High School are subject to Enhanced

Any offer of employment is thus conditional on clearance from the above, on the receipt of two satisfactory references, on a satisfactory medical questionnaire, proof of qualifications, overseas checks where applicable, and on proof of right to reside and work in the U.K.

Choice of referees

We wish to have someone who can write knowledgeably about your abilities to perform professionally in a position similar to this one. We also need to have the most recent possible references. Your referees should therefore normally include your current – or most recent – employer. If you are still a PGCE student, then your Tutor, and someone from your placement school, would be good choices. If you are unable to supply referees who fit into the above categories, please explain this in your letter. We shall carry out such further reference checks as are necessary to ensure the safety and welfare of children. Please provide professional, rather than home addresses for your referees.

Surbiton High School

Junior Girls’ School

Surbiton High School is an academically selective school for girls, which has a Junior Girls’

School and Surbiton Preparatory School, which takes junior boys.

Surbiton High Junior Girls’ School has 260 pupils between the ages of 4 and 11 years. The

School is single form entry at 4+, with a second intake joining the School at the age of 7, making eleven classes altogether. We aim to have no more than 24 girls in a class.

It is our aim to create a warm, secure feeling of being ‘at home’ at School. We wish to develop in our pupils’ self-confidence, self-esteem and a love of learning, which they will carry forward with them into the future.

The Junior Girls’ School is in an urban location on the edge of Kingston upon Thames. The

Junior School building is architect designed and is ten years old; the rooms are spacious, well planned and well resourced. In addition to the classroom accommodation there is a Library,

Hall/Gym, Computer Room, Music Studio, Drama Studio and a Science/Technology laboratory. There are interactive whiteboards in all classrooms. Spacious playing fields nearby at Hinchley Wood allow for excellent sports development.

Our curriculum is based on the National Curriculum with an emphasis being laid on the acquisition of literacy and numeracy skills. We retain a broad and balanced curriculum with

Modern Foreign Languages, Music and PE being taught by specialist teachers.

We look forward to welcoming a caring, committed member of staff who has high expectations, who is able to work well in a team and who is willing to play a full part in the rich and varied life of the School.
