Job Purpose



To support the DDER in the creation and delivery of the Annual Fundraising and Donor
Stewardship Plan.
To lead the Annual Appeal to OWs and Parents with responsibility for the design,
implementation and growth of the programme to ensure the widest possible support
each year.
To oversee the use, development and accuracy of RE database for the department.
Responsibilities
Fundraising









Develop and lead a comprehensive Annual Appeal program to parents and Old
Waconians with a focus on new donors, regular giving, increasing average gift amounts
and legacies.
Responsible for planning and implementing multiple direct mail appeals annually, with a
high degree of customization and emotional appeal. Involves working with graphic
designers, mailing houses and with the Director of Development and External Relations
on theme and artistic concept.
Develop and lead a comprehensive stewardship plan for gift acknowledgement and
recognition of all individual gifts.
Actively identify individual prospects, targeting them for personal visits and moving
annual donors through the donor pyramid into the next giving level. Make creative
connections between and among people, events, programmes and their associated
networks.
Identify opportunities to cultivate and steward donors and prospects – either through
the existing programme of events or other opportunities.
Make the DDER aware of any potential major donors as they emerge within the Old
Waconian body.
Co-ordinate the disbursement of unrestricted funds to appropriate staff projects as
agreed by a disbursement committee.
Ensure accurate recording and timely acknowledgement of all donations received.
Provide evaluation and analysis of income for the DDER and make recommendations for
future fundraising.
Database Management

Assume full responsibility for the effectiveness of RE for the External Relations
department, maintaining the integrity and security of the data.




Design, implement and update procedures in relation to the use of RE, including data
entry and reporting, data cleansing, gift processing, prospect research and relationship
management.
Responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the data, including input and
output, technology management, and end-user training and support.
Coordinate and plan for future data imports / upgrades as needed.
Oversee the process of tax reclamation.
Line Management
Manage and appraise the External Relations Assistant providing training where necessary.
Other




Manage School prizes; establish a system to accept new prizes, communicate them to
appropriate colleagues and steward donors effectively.
Attend CHSPA meeting as and when required.
Attend OW committee meeting as and when required.
Be well informed on developments in Alumni Relations and Fundraising.
This is not an exhaustive list and will vary as departments and school requirements change.
Flexibility regarding some evening and weekend work will be expected.

Educated to degree, or relevant qualification
Experience / Skills
Excellent working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge database
Experience of running an annual fund programme or similar
Knowledge of fundraising principles and practices
Effective planning and project management skills
Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
A working knowledge of the Data Protection Act
Ability to influence

Remuneration package
The successful candidate will be offered an attractive salary, dependant on experience. A Defined
Contribution Pension Scheme is offered as part of that package. The Governors subscribe to a
private health scheme on behalf of permanent staff. Children of permanent staff who attend the
Senior School also receive a staff discount.
