Skill Center Technical Programs Start-Up

Purpose: Provide start-up grants for aerospace and manufacturing technical programs housed at
four skill centers.

Description of services provided: Start up grants to purchase assembly programs.
3. Criteria for receiving services and/or grants: Skill Centers receiving grants must agree to
provide regional high schools with access to a technology laboratory, expand manufacturing
certificate and course offerings at the skill center, and provide a laboratory space for local high
school teachers to engage in professional development in the courses leading to student
employment certification in the aerospace and manufacturing industries.

Statutory and/or Budget language:
Budget Proviso: 2EESB 5034, Sec. 513 (14) - $300,000 of the general fund--state appropriation for
fiscal year 2014 and $300,000 of the general fund--state appropriation for fiscal year 2015 are
provided solely for annual start-up grants for aerospace and manufacturing technical programs
housed at four skill centers. The grants are provided for start-up equipment and curriculum
purchases. To be eligible for funding, the skill center must agree to provide regional high schools with
access to a technology laboratory, expand manufacturing certificate and course offerings at the skill
center, and provide a laboratory space for local high school teachers to engage in professional
development in the courses leading to student employment certification in the aerospace and
manufacturing industries. Once a skill center receives a start-up grant, it is ineligible for additional
start-up funding in the following school year. The office of the superintendent of public instruction
shall administer the grants in consultation with the center for excellence for aerospace and advanced
materials manufacturing.
