Graduate Assistant Position Information
The Office of Student Involvement (OSI) provides programming, community service opportunities,
leadership development, and student organization assistance in an effort to enhance student life,
contribute to enrollment growth, and establish a collegiate learning experience for students at the
University of Central Florida. OSI also advises and coordinates several student agencies, including the
Campus Activities Board, Volunteer UCF, Knightcast, Late Knights, Homecoming, Student Outreach
Services, and Knights of the RoundTable.
Graduate Assistant (GA) positions are offered by OSI to support the mission of the office. These
positions are funded by the Activity and Service Fee as allocated by the Student Government
Association. Each position reports to a professional staff member in OSI and involves intensive work
with student leaders and the general student body. The regular term of service is a year, but the
contract may be renewed for additional years. GA positions are part-time, 20 hours per week, and pay a
stipend that equates to $10.62 per hour. Graduate Assistants may receive tuition waivers for a
maximum of 9 credit hours and health insurance.

Graduate Assistant Position Description
The Office of Student Involvement (OSI) provides programming, community service opportunities,
leadership development, and student organizational assistance in an effort to enhance student life,
contribute to enrollment growth, and establish a collegiate learning experience for students at the
University of Central Florida. OSI also advises and coordinates several student agencies, including the
Campus Activities Board (CAB), Volunteer UCF (VUCF), Knight Cast, Knights of the Roundtable (KoRT),
Student Outreach Services (SOS), Homecoming, and Late Knights.
The Graduate Assistant (GA) will have the opportunity to work in a variety of areas within OSI, thus
gaining an appreciation of the various aspects of a student activities office. The GA will also coordinate
office and agency promotions, including event flyer distribution. The position will involve in other
projects, including but not limited to assessment, grant writing, and event support.
Supervisor: Associate Director, Office of Student Involvement
Service Compensation: The GAs for OSI are expected to fulfill the duties of their positions, and this may
on occasion require above and beyond 20 hours per week. Due to the nature of the Office of Student
Involvement’s mission, some weeks may be much more time intensive than others. Work duties on
nights, weekends, overnight trips and unusual hours are to be expected. Monetary compensation will be
equivalent to approximately $10.62 per hour for a 20 hour week. Graduate Assistants may receive
tuition waivers for a maximum of 9 credit hours and health insurance.
Term of Service: Contracts are for one year terms. Exact terms are to be negotiated via the OSI
Graduate Assistant contract.
General Responsibilities:
 Assist the Associate Director to which the position reports
 Serve as a positive role model for students
 Promote involvement in student life including student activities, student organizations,
recreational sports, and professional development
 Attend staff meetings
 Meet regularly with the Associate Director
 Maintain clear files (electronic and hard copy) of the areas of responsibility
 Meet with the Associate Director at least once per semester for a job performance evaluation
 Provide a written end-of-semester report






Keep regular and consistent office hours
Participate in conversations with regard to developing office policies and procedures
Handle sensitive and confidential data in an appropriate manner
Supervise students’ use of OSI office space and resources
Assist in recruiting, selecting and training new student leaders for OSI agencies
Assist with special projects when requested
Student Outreach Services Responsibilities:
 Advises SOS student employees; acts as liaison between SOS team and other OSI agencies and
staff
 Remains in constant communication with all SOS team, acting as a resource and guide
 Ensures that SOS team follow through with paperwork, graphic requests, and other obligations
 Nurtures and develops the skills of the SOS team; helps to keep positive morale of team
 Encourages directors to communicate with other SOS team to share program ideas, event
experiences, and collaboration
 Maintains private Facebook Group for regional SOS team, frequently posting reminders,
encouraging conversation, and posting inspiration and opportunities for professional
development
 Keeps SOS team aware of Orlando campus programming and ways to stay connected to Orlando
campus opportunities
 Stays in the know of graphics requested by SOS team, and assists with proofreading and editing
design materials
 Responsible for general operations and efficiency of SOS
 Participates in Skype meetings with directors, and represents SOS during various departmental
meetings on Orlando and other campuses
 Assist with organizing retreats for SOS team
 Works on special projects for SOS
 Occasional travel for campus visits, and meetings
 Assists in the interviewing and hiring process of SOS teams
 Other duties as assigned
Desired Qualifications:
 Pursuing a Graduate Degree (accepted in a UCF Graduate Program at time of application and in
a the Graduate Program at start of employment)
 Knowledge of/and ability to work on Windows/PC platform
 Knowledge of MS Office Suite of programs (word, excel, etc.)
 Marketing/PR experience
 Experience with electronic marketing, i.e. Facebook, Twitter, etc.
 Appreciation of human diversity and diverse ideas
 Excellent interpersonal skills
 Strong organizational skills
 Strong budgeting skills
 Excellent written and verbal communication skills
 Leadership capability
 Attention to detail and creativity in problem-solving
 Must work well individually and in a group setting

